Spring Villa Campground

Overview

Spring Villa Campground offers a peaceful and secluded retreat nestled within the expansive 350-acre Spring Villa Park in Opelika, Alabama. Managed by the local parks and recreation department, this destination provides a unique blend of historical charm and natural beauty, centered around the historic Penn-Yonge House built in the mid-1800s. Unlike standard roadside stops, this park emphasizes a quiet, heavily wooded atmosphere where travelers can enjoy the slower pace of the South while remaining close to modern conveniences and regional highlights.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just a short drive from the heart of downtown Opelika, the campground is surrounded by lush hardwood forests and rolling Alabama terrain. The setting is notably serene, offering a tranquil buffer from the traffic and noise of the nearby Interstate 85 corridor. Guests will find themselves immersed in a landscape that feels deep in the woods, yet the park remains perfectly positioned for those visiting the Auburn-Opelika metropolitan area or exploring the scenic backroads of Lee County.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features several RV sites equipped with water and electrical hookups, providing a reliable base for travelers in various rig sizes. The park is famous for its nationally recognized disc golf course, which attracts players from across the region. On-site facilities include:

  • Clean restroom and shower facilities.
  • Picnic pavilions and a large playground area.
  • Access to the historic villa grounds.

For those who enjoy staying active, the scenic walking trails offer a wonderful way to explore the local flora and fauna throughout the year.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

There is plenty to explore within a short drive of the park. Golfers can test their skills at the world-class Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Grand National, while sports fans will appreciate the easy commute to Auburn University for game days. Nature enthusiasts should visit Chewacla State Park for its lake and mountain bike trails. For a more urban experience, the historic Opelika downtown district offers a vibrant selection of craft breweries, local eateries, and unique shopping experiences that showcase the town's creative spirit.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an excellent fit for budget-conscious RVers and history enthusiasts who value a quiet, rustic environment over a high-density resort experience. It is a premier destination for disc golf enthusiasts and families looking for a spacious outdoor area to explore. Travelers seeking a wooded, low-key home base while visiting Auburn for university events or graduation ceremonies will find Spring Villa Campground to be an affordable and charming alternative to traditional lodging options in the area.

Great quiet little RV park. Bring your pets and relax. We stayed for 4 days over memorial Day weekend. It was $35 a day. It has 20amp, 30amp and 50amp hook ups if you want to have a fire you will need to bring a little metal fire pit that's elevated. Also if you want to grill out bring your own grill. The pool looks as though it's been shut down for years. It's about 20 to 30 minutes outside of Auburn and Opelika. Both beautiful towns.

This was definitely a sleeper Campground so glad we found it. Very well kept grounds although you do have to put up with Mower and weed eater noises to keep it that way. This Campground has everything you would want a playgrounds hiking trails disc golf or 3D archery they're building a big lodge too. There isn't a dog park but they're pretty laid-back and we just took our dog to a big field & let her off leash and threw the ball for her we also took her on the hiking trail and were able to have her off leash since it was no one else on the trail and she went swimming in the little creek! There are pull throughs with a cement pad. We didn't use the bathroom for showers cuz we have one in our RV but if it's anything like the rest of the park I'm sure they were very clean. The town of Opelika is downtown historic district is very cute with lots of restaurant choices.

Stayed this past weekend at campground while in area for rodeo/ concert. Campground is small but clean & full hookup with clean showers/ bathrooms. Great price & I would definitely recommend staying. An interesting mix of well maintained and abandoned. The campground area and surrounding park is excellent, well kept, and obviously routinely maintained. The staff was pleasant, professional and friendly....and frequently seen out taking care of the grounds in and around the campground. Always willing to offer a wave and/or a quick friendly chat. Nice hiking trail around the campus and there's a disc golf course on the park side of the grounds that makes for a good hike if no one is playing (or you are). On the other side of all that goodness: the bridge is out on one of the main routes in from Opelika and that adds a unique challenge to getting here. The pool has clearly been abandoned for several years. The Penn-Younge Home seems to be shuttered and parts of it appear to be being used for storage...hard to say since it isn't open for visitors at the moment.

I was looking for campgrounds to stay at while I was working in Opelika, there is another one about the same distance away from my place of work, however, this campground is so much nicer, full concrete pads, full, hook up, great Wi-Fi, and the groundskeeper Jeff is very friendly helpful and just an awesome person. I would highly recommend this campground over the other couple that are here in Opelika

Jeff and the staff at Spring Villa are friendly and hospitable. I’ve been going to Spring Villa since I was a kid and remember swimming in the cold spring fed pool. The pool has sadly closed but the nature trails are beautiful. Now, as an adult, we visit and use the RV campgrounds when in town visiting family. It is quiet and peaceful. We love it.

What a great campground. There are only two in area and we chose this one and glad we did after we got a look at the competition the day after checking in. We don't have WIFI but what we do have more than makes up. Extremely clean and comfortable bathhouse, extremely quiet wooded setting and extremely friendly staff (Jeff is great). Oh yes, forgot the best. Level concrete pads!
