State Fair of West Virginia Campground
Overview
The State Fair of West Virginia Campground offers a functional and spacious camping experience in the heart of the Greenbrier Valley. While primarily known for hosting thousands of visitors during the annual fair in August, this facility provides a reliable stopover for RVers exploring the region throughout the warmer months. It is characterized by its wide-open layout and straightforward utility setups, making it an easy choice for travelers who prioritize convenience and location over resort-style luxuries. The atmosphere is quiet and rural, providing a peaceful resting spot between mountain adventures.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Fairlea, just south of the historic downtown of Lewisburg, the campground sits on a rolling landscape typical of the West Virginia highlands. The surrounding area is famous for its scenic mountain vistas and cool evening breezes that define the Appalachian experience. Because it is located directly on the fairgrounds, the site offers easy access to local commerce and major roadways, ensuring that getting in and out with a large rig is manageable. The proximity to the Greenbrier River provides a lush, green backdrop for your stay.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground provides the essentials needed for a comfortable stay, including full hookup sites with water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electrical connections. The terrain consists of mostly level grass and gravel pads, accommodating a variety of RV sizes from small trailers to large motorhomes. While the amenities are modest compared to a commercial resort, visitors have access to on-site bathhouses and restrooms during the primary season. The open-field design ensures that satellite reception is generally excellent for those who need to stay connected while on the road.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Lewisburg is frequently named one of the best small towns in America, and staying here puts you minutes away from its historic downtown district, filled with unique boutiques and local eateries. Outdoor enthusiasts can head to the nearby Greenbrier River Trail for hiking and biking or visit the subterranean wonders of Lost World Caverns. For a touch of history and luxury, the world-famous Greenbrier Resort is just a short drive away in White Sulphur Springs, offering guided bunker tours and manicured grounds to explore.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for travelers who view their RV as a functional base camp rather than the destination itself. It is a big-rig friendly option for those passing through the region via Route 219 or Interstate 64. If you are attending a special event at the fairgrounds or want a budget-friendly home base while exploring the Greenbrier Valley, this campground fits the bill perfectly. It appeals most to self-contained RVers who appreciate utility, peace, and proximity to authentic West Virginia culture.

This place has two identities? One during the fair or events and available area for RV is huge and the price would be fair! The second is off-season the RV area is small the layout vary confusing water and electric seems to be on opposite side of dump? Or you need extra hoses and cord. The price high for poorly kept area

This is an okay place to stay for a night or two! The sites are not numbered like you would expect so it's difficult to determine which site you're actually in. The water connection was almost 60ft away and kind of communal, the electric hookups are also communal with one panel serving four sites the sewer caps are difficult to remove because they are slip on PVC caps. Wifi while available is almost useless constantly resetting the connection and very weak! Sites are grass with gravel roads and prepare to be the only ones in the campground (not necessarily bad). The road is one way and pretty busy but quickly calms about bed time
