Stockton Lake - COE/Ruark Bluff East

Overview

Ruark Bluff East is a premier Corps of Engineers (COE) destination nestled along the scenic shores of Stockton Lake. This campground offers a tranquil escape into nature, characterized by its rolling hills and proximity to the water. Known for its clean facilities and spacious campsites, it provides a perfect base for those looking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Southwest Missouri. The park balances modern convenience with a rugged, outdoor aesthetic that appeals to traditional campers and modern RVers alike.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated on the southern end of the lake, roughly ten miles from the town of Stockton, MO. It is defined by its dramatic limestone bluffs and thick hardwood forests that offer significant shade during the summer months. The surrounding landscape is largely undeveloped, providing a quiet atmosphere where the sounds of the lake and local wildlife take center stage. Travelers will appreciate the easy access to the water’s edge, where the shoreline remains rugged and picturesque.

Amenities & Park Features

Ruark Bluff East features well-maintained sites, many of which offer electric hookups for RVs. The campground is equipped with modern comforts including hot showers and flush toilets, ensuring a comfortable stay. Families often congregate at the playground or the designated swim beach, while boaters utilize the convenient on-site boat ramp. The park also provides dump stations and drinking water access, making it functional for longer stays in the Missouri wilderness.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Stockton Lake is widely recognized as the Sailing Capital of Missouri, offering consistent winds and deep, clear waters. Anglers frequent the area to catch walleye and crappie, while hikers can explore the nearby Stockton State Park trails. For a change of pace, the town of Stockton provides local dining and supplies. The lake’s 300 miles of shoreline offer endless opportunities for kayaking, paddleboarding, and photography, particularly during the vibrant fall foliage season.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is an ideal choice for nature enthusiasts and water sports lovers who prefer a quiet, scenic environment over a bustling resort. It is particularly well-suited for families and boaters who want direct access to the lake’s recreational activities. Because of the large, wooded sites, it also appeals to RVers looking for privacy and a sense of solitude. If you enjoy a back-to-basics experience without sacrificing essential utilities, this is the perfect Missouri retreat.

I don't like lakes, in my opinion I guess it's a nice place to be with family if you are person that likes being in the outdoors, they have fishing areas and boat areas, so it's kind of nice that they separate one thing from other

One of my favorite campgrounds yet! Pad sites are awesome! Even though some don’t have much shade…it’s ok if you have an awning. Attendant was nice and knowledgeable of the area. Its quiet. The roads through the campground are good. Restrooms are clean. Sites are decently spaced out. Each one has a fire pit. Very well maintained.

One of our favorite campgrounds close to home. We have tent camped and stayed in our camper. The tent sites are some of our favorites. There are areas to walk right into the water and rocks to jump off. The fishing isn't too bad.

A lot of memories have been made here. I've been a lot of places across the US, and I always look forward to coming back to Ruark Bluff.
