Tennessee-Tombigbee - COE/Pickensville

Overview

The Tennessee-Tombigbee - COE/Pickensville campground offers a serene escape along the banks of the Aliceville Lake in Carrollton, Alabama. As part of the extensive Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, this facility provides travelers with a well-maintained environment managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It is a destination where the gentle flow of the river meets a lush forest landscape, creating an inviting atmosphere for those looking to disconnect from the hustle of city life while enjoying the comforts of a developed federal park.

Location & Surroundings

Situated near the Alabama and Mississippi state line, the park is nestled within a heavily wooded peninsula that provides a buffer from the outside world. The surrounding landscape is characterized by towering pines and hardwoods that offer significant shade for most sites, keeping the area cool during the warm Alabama summers. The proximity to Aliceville Lake means that water views are abundant, and the area feels remote while still being within a reasonable driving distance from towns like Columbus, Mississippi.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features over 170 campsites, many of which are equipped with water and electric hookups to suit modern RV needs. Visitors have access to essential facilities including hot showers, laundry rooms, and a convenient dump station. For those traveling with watercraft, the on-site boat ramp provides easy access to the waterway for a day of exploration. The sites are generally spacious and level, accommodating a wide range of rig sizes while maintaining a sense of privacy through natural vegetation and thoughtful layout.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

A major highlight for many visitors is the Tom Bevill Lock and Dam, located just a short distance from the campground. History buffs will appreciate the Snagboat Montgomery, a National Historic Landmark docked nearby that serves as a fascinating museum. Outdoor enthusiasts can spend their days fishing for bass and crappie or exploring the various walking trails that wind through the recreation area. The waterway itself is a primary draw, offering miles of scenic routes for kayaking and powerboating alike.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal destination for anglers and boating enthusiasts who want direct access to one of the region's premier fishing and transit waterways. It is also a perfect fit for nature lovers seeking a quiet, bird-friendly environment with plenty of space to roam. If you prefer the natural charm and reliability of a federal campground over the high-density environment of a commercial resort, Pickensville provides the quiet atmosphere and scenic beauty that defines a classic Alabama camping trip.

Excellent place to go camping with view of the river and tugboats passing by frequently!

Very clean and well maintained. Level lots. Plenty of shade. Great water views for many sites.

Really enjoyed this campground. Was peaceful, enjoyed the barge traffic on the river. We didn't fish this trip, but the campers next to us fished daily and caught some nice catfish. Not a lot of campers in the park, sites are FHU which is nice as many COE campgrounds in AL don't have FHU.

We have a great view of the lake, and we can see the barge when it comes by

We love going to this campground. The spots are spaced out enough to make it feel like you have your own "yard" and some privacy. The bath houses are normally clean. The only negative I can say about Pickensville is that we wished the bath houses had A/C. We have met some great people from all over while we have been there too. I recommend staying here if you are just passing through and need a place for the night or want a week or two vacation!

We just stayed at this campground for the third time. It is our favorite halfway stop on the way to visiting family, so we usually only stay a night at a time. One of the things we love the most about this campground is that the spots are so spacious. We also love the nature setting. The boardwalks over the water are so pretty to walk over. Would definitely recommend staying here. No complaints.

I don’t think there’s a “bad” site in the park! Huge back yards, plenty of play space. Something to see and explore everywhere. Excellent for biking and walking. Several FHU sites and riverfront sites with active traffic- barges, fishing boats and leisure craft. Several active and accessible camp hosts. All sites are pretty level. Few nearby attractions and shopping.

Spent 3 nights here at the end of August, and definitely enjoyed it. The hosts were extremely gracious and helpful. Thanks to them, we took a bike ride over to the lock/dam. Truly enjoyed the scenery and the exercise. There were sections of the Campground that were fairly deserted, and we were surprised by that. It really is a great place. Our site, Number 114, was ok, though we were a bit disappointed that there was so much growth between us and the river. As a result, it's not what we would consider a water view site. Before we checked out on Monday, we saw the housekeeping and landscaping crews come by to keep everything in order. We didn't use the bath house since our site had full hook ups, but checked it out and found it to be fine for those who might want or need to use it. It's only a few minutes to a nearby town where you can find a Dollar General in case you forgot to pack something. Overall, we enjoyed our time there, and will definitely go again.
