The Dam Storage
The Friant Dam is a concrete gravity dam located on the San Joaquin River in Fresno County, California. It was built in 1942 by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to provide irrigation water for the Central Valley Project. The dam is part of the Friant-Kern Canal system, which diverts water from the San Joaquin River to the Kern River and other tributaries of the Central Valley. The dam has a storage capacity of 1.2 million acre-feet and is capable of releasing up to 1,000 cubic feet per second of water. The Friant Dam also serves as a major recreational destination, offering fishing, boating, and camping opportunities.
