Tickfaw
Overview
Tickfaw State Park serves as a premier destination for those wanting to experience the natural beauty of Louisiana. The park provides access to four distinct ecosystems, including cypress swamps and hardwood forests. Visitors often find that the elevated boardwalk system is the highlight of the park, offering a safe and dry way to observe local wildlife in their natural habitat. The environment is serene, characterized by the sounds of the swamp and the shade of towering trees. It is a place where the pace of life slows down significantly, allowing travelers to reconnect with the outdoors.
Location & Surroundings
Tucked away in Springfield, LA, the park is situated along the scenic Tickfaw River. This location offers a sense of deep-woods isolation while remaining conveniently close to the I-12 corridor. The surrounding area is defined by its lush vegetation and proximity to the river's edge. Travelers can enjoy the shaded RV pads that blend seamlessly into the natural landscape. It is roughly an hour away from both Baton Rouge and New Orleans, providing a central base for exploring the unique cultural heritage of South Louisiana.
Amenities & Park Features
The park offers well-spaced RV sites equipped with water and electrical hookups, catering to most travel trailers and motorhomes. While the atmosphere is rustic, the park provides essential comforts and modern features to enhance your stay:
- Access to a central bathhouse and laundry facility for convenience.
- A seasonal splash pad and playground to keep children entertained.
- A nature center featuring a large aquarium and educational wildlife exhibits.
These amenities ensure that while you are immersed in the woods, you still have access to necessary comforts.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Exploring the waterways is a primary draw, and the park features a dedicated canoe and kayak launch for river access. Hikers can spend hours on the miles of trails that weave through the woods and over the wetlands. Beyond the park gates, there are several local highlights to enjoy:
- Visit the Ponchatoula Antique District for unique local finds.

We stay at Tickfaw twice a year and love it. The park hosts and staff are wonderful. The facilities are well taken care of and it’s 99,9 percent peaceful. Dogs are welcome and rules apply. Restrooms and laundry are very well kept.

Our church utilizes the group cabin each year for our men's retreat. The group cabin is perfect for group retreats! We also love walking the boardwalk and the pond.

Love this park. It is definitely a hidden gem of Springfield and more people need to go venture through. The boardwalk at the back of the park is elevated above the swamp/bayou and has a suspension bridge across the Tickfaw River. Two small kids and my wife were able to hike around without problems or complaints. Highly recommend to visit.

1st time here. Very nice state park. The staff are extremely friendly. Rv spots paved and pretty much level. Nice hiking trails. The bathrooms are very clean and air-conditioned. Will definitely be back

Great LA state park! Plenty of options for overnighting: tent sites, tent and cabin rentals, and RV sites. Fun amenities canoe & kayak rentals, pavilion for gatherings with a splash pad, nature center with trails. Lots of nature - don't feed the gators! The comfort center is ACed with showers and bathrooms. There is even a coin operated laundry with basic vending. If you have time, definitely do a day trip or spend a few nights.

First thing is to make sure you take the road through Springfield and Blood River Road. If Google routes you on something to the west of that it is a one and a half lane road with flooded ditches on either side. Second big thing is the campground is closed as of 5/11/2025. Probably because of flooding . A lot of driving for nothing. The cabins look lovely.

Excellent clean campground. Good spacing between camp areas. We brought the grandchildren there for a couple days and they enjoyed the playground, the swamp walk and alligators! Would definitely go back but weekends stay full so weekdays or plan in advance.

$3 per person as of February 2024 gets you in the park. Everything seems to be well maintained. I had come specifically to see the nature center, which was a lovely building with lots of things to look at inside. Some of the trails are closed, but that could be due to the weather the day I came.

Very beautiful area. Unfortunately a large percentage of the trails have been closed since hurricane Ida. Lots of restrooms and parking. We really enjoyed visiting the nature center. If you plan on visiting, check the hours before going. The nature center is only open on certain days of the week.
