Timberline Lake Camping Resort

Overview

Timberline Lake Camping Resort offers a classic outdoor experience tucked away in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Spanning over 130 acres of lush woodland, the park provides a serene environment where the sounds of nature replace the hustle of highway traffic. It serves as a peaceful retreat for those who appreciate a rustic atmosphere while still maintaining access to modern conveniences. Whether you are arriving in a motorhome or looking for a cozy cabin rental, the park emphasizes a genuine connection to the great outdoors and the simple joys of camping.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in New Gretna, NJ, the resort is conveniently located near the Garden State Parkway, making it easily accessible for travelers heading toward the coast. The surrounding landscape is defined by the Pine Barrens ecosystem, characterized by sandy soil and towering pine trees. Its proximity to the Mullica River and local marshlands offers a unique coastal-meets-forest vibe. The area is exceptionally quiet, providing a buffer from the busy boardwalks found further east, yet it remains close enough to the water for a day trip.

Amenities & Park Features

The centerpiece of the resort is the scenic, spring-fed lake, which is a favorite spot for catch-and-release fishing and quiet canoeing. Guests can enjoy a variety of recreational facilities, including a sparkling swimming pool, a well-maintained playground, and an arcade for younger campers. The park also features a fully stocked camp store for essentials, firewood, and ice, alongside clean bathhouses and laundry facilities. These amenities ensure that families have everything they need for a comfortable stay while enjoying the natural surroundings of the park.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

While the park feels secluded, it is just a short drive from several major Jersey Shore destinations. Visitors can take a twenty-minute trip to the Atlantic City Boardwalk for dining and entertainment or spend the day on the beaches of Long Beach Island. For history buffs, the Historic Village of Smithville offers charming boutiques and eateries just down the road. Additionally, the adjacent Bass River State Forest provides miles of hiking and biking trails through some of the state's most pristine wilderness areas.

Who This Park Is Best For

This resort is an ideal choice for family travelers who want a traditional camping experience filled with outdoor play and seasonal weekend events. It also appeals to RVers seeking a quiet, shaded base camp while exploring the southern coast of New Jersey. If you prefer a relaxed, wooded setting over a commercial beachfront lot, Timberline Lake provides the perfect balance. It is especially suited for those who enjoy bird watching, kayaking, and a slower pace of travel away from the neon lights.

This campground is a great find. They have seasonal sites but also have cabins, sites for rvs and most importantly for me sites for tents.sites are good size and if need more room get 2. Beautiful lakes for swimming, fishing and kayaks.they also have nice pool and nice enclosed area for dogs to have a break from their leash. The store is nice and has what you need. Employees are very friendly and helpful. They also have special events on the weekends if you care to leave your relaxing campsite. Recently they even had a fundraiser for local fire department. Just an overall great place! I love it!

READ THEIR CANCELLATION POLICY BEFORE BOOKING. I did, in fact, read it before I made my booking, as I had every intention of showing up for our reservation on 9/5/25. Unfortunately, life happens. In my case, (I am an RN) a VERY unfortunate situation has led me to now have to cover for my coworker that weekend. I canceled with Timberline Lake Resort 24 days prior to our reservation. They kept my deposit of $79 and then CHARGED me $20 for canceling (they get a total of $79 from me). They said the $59 can be used as a credit at their campground if used within a year. Charging the $20 to cancel is just plain thievery in my opinion. Hotels give you a full refund with 24 hours notice. So no, I prefer not to do business with this campground if this is the way THEY conduct business. With a fair cancellation policy, they could have gained a new customer. 24 days in advance is plenty notice that it should be reasonable that I get my $79 back. I’ve been robbed.

We rented the 2 deluxe cabins. They were both very dirty. I had to scrub the bathroom for about an hour. It looked like it was never cleaned. The toilet was so dirty, full of hair and pee. The shower was covered in dirt. We couldn't use the fans since they had about 2 inches of dust in them. There was old trash and dirty tissues under my bed. The porch was covered in dirt, cob webs and spiders. The tables and chairs were very dusty and stained . When I called to complain the cleaning lady came to our cabins and gave us a free $7 bundle of wood, although we paid $1200 for the week..

I love this campground, been coming here for the past 3 years. Beautiful lake, decent sized pool. I love that they have themed weekends; Crafts and exciting activities for the kids. Its quiet and peaceful, home away from home 🙃

Roads are small and the pool was a bit boring when I went, but other than that the place was nice. The beach area is adorable and the water felt nice. The kona ice truck that was supposed to come at 3pm wasn't there when we checked, so that was disappointing. ☹️

Excellent facility with friendly staff! Loved the pool, lake and beach. Weekend long activities and always something to do. Only complaint is we didn’t stay longer. Will return for sure!

Super friendly staff. The people that camp here are all super friendly. Every time we go we end up making friends with someone new. The bathrooms and showers are always clean. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a nice place to get away for the week. The cabins are just perfect for a family of up to 6 comfortably. The store has all of the little things that you probably forgot to pack.

We have a 23ft travel trailer. Camp ground is sandy. Lake and pool are great. Employees are awesome and everyone was super nice. I will say some sites are very tight but is definitely fun camp ground. They keep things interesting and fun for kids. Bath house is nice and clean. We can't wait to go again
