Uinta/Soldier Creek

Overview

Nestled within the vast Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, the Soldier Creek area offers a rugged and refreshing escape for RV travelers. Located near the expansive Strawberry Reservoir, this destination provides a classic mountain experience at an elevation of approximately 7,600 feet. It is well-regarded for its open landscapes and access to some of Utah's most famous trout waters, making it a staple for those who value natural beauty and a quiet atmosphere over high-density resort living.

Location & Surroundings

Positioned a short, scenic drive from Heber City, UT, the park sits on the eastern edge of the reservoir. The terrain consists of rolling sagebrush hills and wide-open vistas that offer breathtaking sunset views over the water. Because of its high elevation, the area stays significantly cooler than the valleys below, providing a perfect summer retreat. Travelers are surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Wasatch Mountains, offering a sense of isolation while remaining accessible from major highways.

Amenities & Park Features

As a Forest Service facility, the focus here is on primitive charm and natural integration. While you will not find full hookups, many sites feature paved parking pads that can accommodate moderately sized RVs and trailers. Essential facilities include vault toilets and shared drinking water stations located throughout the loops. RVers will appreciate the on-site dump station, which is a critical feature for self-contained rigs planning an extended stay in the high country.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is undoubtedly Strawberry Reservoir, a premier destination for trophy trout fishing and motorized boating. The nearby Soldier Creek Marina provides convenient boat rentals and supplies for a full day on the water. For those who prefer land-based adventures, the surrounding forest offers miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing. Enthusiasts often spot elk, deer, and various migratory birds that frequent the shoreline and alpine meadows.

Who This Park Is Best For

This location is ideal for self-sufficient RVers who enjoy dry camping and want to be steps away from world-class fishing. It appeals to boaters and anglers looking for easy water access without the congestion of more developed metropolitan marinas. If you are seeking a peaceful mountain atmosphere and do not mind trading modern electrical hookups for a front-row seat to nature, Soldier Creek is an excellent fit for your Utah travel style.

I am so impressed by how Patti and John have kept this campground. I have been all over Utah for so many church camps and conferences (10+) and have never been to a camping area so clean and where everyone is so respectful of the premises. The bathrooms are BEAUTIFUL. Literally so clean. Nothing on the floor, efficient, close to campsites, no spilled soap, NO BUGS. What a beautiful space to camp. We will be back!

I spent a little over a week at Soldier Creek and couldn't be happier with my choice to stay here! The scenery was gorgeous, nearby dump station convenient and much appreciated, and the camp hosts, Tami and JJ were the best! They were friendly, informative, patient, and so accommodating--everything camp hosts should be. This was such an amazing experience. I will definitely be back!

We spent Labor Day weekend at this beautiful campsite near Strawberry Reservoir. The campsite and facilities were clean and well cared for. The camp hosts Cortnie and Mike were super helpful and informative. The helped us out when we were unprepared because of an unforeseen flat tire and let us borrow a pump. We had a great time and it was refreshing to be in the clear air and outdoors. This was actually the Aspen Grove Campground.

We always enjoy visiting this area. The camp grounds are exceptionally clean and the bathrooms are always well maintained and stocked with toilet paper and soap. The camp hosts/managers John and Patty are fantastic and are on top of it! We were camped next to a couple of rowdy camps and notified them of the issue, John and Patty took care of it pronto! This is our second year in a row with these new camp hosts, I hope they stay around for years to come!

There was no shade except for a tiny pavilion. Tent sites are hard (there are not many flat places). We had to hike to get to the water. The beach near to our campsite was covered in thistles and stinging nettle besides the rocks. Great place for boating though.
