Wasatch/Yellow Pine Campground
Overview
Yellow Pine Campground offers a secluded escape within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Situated just east of Kamas, Utah, this site provides a traditional camping experience under a majestic canopy of Ponderosa pines and cottonwoods. It serves as an ideal basecamp for travelers looking to disconnect from the digital world and immerse themselves in the rugged, high-altitude beauty of the Uinta Mountains without the distractions of modern commercial development.
Location & Surroundings
Located directly along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway, the park sits at an elevation of approximately 7,200 feet. The Weber River flows just across the highway, providing a soothing natural soundtrack and a cooling influence during the peak summer months. The surrounding landscape is defined by steep canyon walls and dense forest, offering visitors a sense of deep mountain privacy while remaining accessible via a well-maintained paved corridor.
Amenities & Park Features
As a traditional Forest Service destination, the amenities focus on the essentials for self-contained RV travelers. Guests will find vault toilets and potable water provided via hand pumps throughout the grounds. Each individual campsite is equipped with a heavy-duty picnic table and fire ring, perfect for evening meals under the stars. While the park does not offer electric or water hookups, many sites are spacious enough to accommodate mid-sized rigs and trailers in a natural, wooded setting.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw for visitors is the immediate access to the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway, widely considered one of the most beautiful drives in the American West. Anglers will appreciate the proximity to the Weber River for trout fishing, while hikers can easily reach the trailhead for the Yellow Pine Trail or drive further up the pass to see the Lower Provo River Falls. The area is a haven for mountain biking, photography, and viewing local wildlife like moose and deer.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is best suited for nature enthusiasts and boondockers who prioritize scenery and solitude over resort-style luxuries. It is a fantastic choice for adventure seekers who want to be positioned at the gateway to the high Uintas for early-morning hiking or fishing. If you enjoy the smell of pine needles, the sound of a rushing river, and a quiet atmosphere, Wasatch/Yellow Pine Campground offers the authentic Utah mountain experience you are looking for.

Barely got our 21 ft trailer through the campground loop and only found 1 to 3 (all occupied) suitable sites. Ended up going down to the trailer-friendly "dispersed sites" below the highway. Make sure you have displayed the appropriate "Recreation pass" in your vehicle or you are subject to fines. There's a self-service pay station just down the road from the campground. No Verizon coverage here.

We had a great time with our little family up here a few weekends ago. We had the honor of running into Todd from Texas who was the camp care taker he was a very nice guy gave us insight on paying since we are newer to camping and gave us some cool places to check out in the area surrounding us. Thanks Todd for your wonderful guidance while on our trip! Truly value you and how well taken care of this campsite was! Very clean including the bathrooms. We will be back atleast once a year!

Beautiful campground!! Quiet and well maintained. The fire pits have the swivels you can cook over, which I was delighted to find! Some of the spots have riverside spots. I would by happy to stay in almost every spot in the campground. Self serve and was open at 1 am when we arrived.
