West Point Lake - COE/Amity
Overview
Amity Campground is a premier destination for those seeking the quintessential lakeside experience on the banks of West Point Lake. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this park balances natural beauty with well-maintained facilities. Situated within a dense canopy of hardwoods and pines, the park provides a peaceful environment where the sounds of the forest and the water take center stage. It serves as an ideal base for exploring the Chattahoochee River valley while enjoying a quiet, natural retreat away from the hustle of city life.
Location & Surroundings
Located in Lanett, Alabama, the park sits on the western edge of a massive 25,900-acre reservoir. The terrain is characterized by rolling hills and wooded peninsulas that extend into the water, providing many sites with direct shoreline access. The surrounding area remains largely undeveloped, preserving a sense of wilderness while remaining accessible to the amenities of nearby towns. Travelers will appreciate the lush, green landscape that offers significant shade during the warm Alabama summers, creating a cool canopy for campers.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features 96 spacious campsites, many of which are equipped with water and electric hookups. For the convenience of RVers, the park provides a central dump station, laundry facilities, and well-kept shower buildings. Recreation is a focal point here, with a dedicated swimming beach, multiple playgrounds, and a multi-lane boat ramp for easy lake access. Large picnic shelters are available for group gatherings, and the sites are designed to accommodate a variety of rig sizes, including many waterfront pads that offer stunning sunset views.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Fishing is the primary draw at West Point Lake, which is widely known for its trophy largemouth bass and crappie populations. Boaters can spend days exploring the jagged shoreline and hidden coves of the reservoir. Just a short drive away, visitors can tour the West Point Dam or explore the historic downtown districts of Lanett and nearby West Point, Georgia. For those willing to drive slightly further, the botanical beauty of Callaway Gardens offers a wonderful day trip for the whole family, featuring impressive floral displays and walking trails.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is best suited for outdoor enthusiasts and families who prioritize nature over resort-style luxuries. It is a fantastic choice for anglers who want to be steps away from their next catch or for RVers seeking a quiet, rustic retreat with scenic views. While it lacks the high-speed amenities of a private commercial park, its spacious sites and direct water access make it a favorite for those traveling with boats, kayaks, or a desire for peaceful birdwatching in a forest setting.

What a great campground! So great that we cancelled days at another place so we could stay longer. Lots of locals with families and boats and just good ole camping fun, cookouts and swimming and fishing and tubing. We camped in a small loop with only 6 sites, 31-36. Large enough for big rigs, and spacious enough you weren't on top of your neighbor. We're in a motorhome and two more showed up the next day with the same brand as ours. Nice chatting with them. We then moved over to Site 88, right next to boat ramp but lots of shade and privacy. Not much to do nearby but we ride bikes in nearby Pine Mountain, very nice bike trail called Man O War Trail. Also visited the nearby town of LaGrange for groceries and exploring. Overall we would definitely come back to camp here. They are only open 5 months out of the year, which is crazy. Staff was helpful and very friendly too.

I have been going to this campground for 40+ years. Love going & relaxing. The campgrounds are always very clean & maintained. However, I miss the playgrounds that used to be there for the kids. The bathrooms could use a little updating but I don't typically use them because I use our motorhome. Absolutely love Mr. Billy & Mrs. Suzanne, the gate attendants!!!

First, the grass on all the sights was mid-calf high or higher. I had to drive 40 miles to borrow a weed eater to cut a path around the camp site and a path to the lake. Ant mounds all around the camp site and in grass around the restrooms. Grass is high enough that my kids did not see them until they stepped in them. Then there is the trash all around the site and in the woods. When we got to the site, there was a large bag of fish guts hanging in the trees. Did I mention that the bathroom was gross. Toilet stopped up and urine all over the place. When we addressed it with the site monitors, they simply said there was nothing they could do. One excuse after another. So, not to be negative nanny, the last two times here was great, a 10 of 10 and but this trip a 2 out of 10.

Grass was not cut. We had had to weed eat to get to the water and around our where our camper sits. Fish guts were hanging in a bag on a tree. The stench was unbearable. Trash was not picked up around our site.

Love this campground. Second year here. Came a few days earlier than planned. So we found a site until ours was ready. We love the water sites. Spacious campsites with picnic table and firepit. Clean bath houses. Have a separate laundry room. It's only a week here this time. But next year will be two weeks of bliss.

Been coming here for over 20 years camping with thousands of great memories...but now the new people running the gate are just so plan rude...may have to find a new spot till those nasty people are gone...

Gorgeous, peaceful, one of my favorite vacations. This was our first time visiting. Would give 5 stars HOWEVER, the lady that works the gate is possibly the angriest person I’ve ever met. From check in to every time we left, she was rude. Looking for things to fuss about from where we parked to check in to where we hung our park pass. We rode our bikes to get a picture of the sign and she yelled at us that we didn’t need to ride up there that they expected lots of people checking in and out that day. I giggled (I’m a nervous giggler and the thought that she was reprimanding me, a 53 year old woman and my husband, a 63 year old man was laughable). She leaned out the window and yelled at me “IT’S NOT FUNNY!” Then, as we rode back in, her husband stopped my husband and told him we were required to wear helmets. This is not a state law and it is not posted as a rule at the park. We have camped at several Corp of Engineer campgrounds and have never been told this. We didn’t argue, we just avoided them. Someone really needs to reconsider their contract next year. People just want to enjoy their vacation and not be harassed. Otherwise, it would have been a perfect vacation.

They don’t have rooms but their camp sites are beautiful, nicely spaced apart, available with water and electricity, most on the lake. Our campsite was perfect, got to watch some beautiful sunrises, woke up, walked out of our tent and fished before breakfast. Camp staff is great, very nice, helpful. Bathrooms are clean and all work. Had a great time, plan on going back as soon as this heat passes!!

This very well could be the best campground on this lake! Rain to Blue skies, this campground will be the most BEAUTIFUL one you find! The hosts and visitors are extremely kind and helpful. If you do not know your way, they will give you directions and give you a map. It really makes you feel like family here! I couldn't describe the location in a better way, it is absolutely STUNNING! The wildlife around here will sometimes come close to you and you can get so many pictures as well! All in all 10/10 Park and we 100% will be visiting again.

Good campground, a little outdated, 50/50 for level parking pads. Bathhouses were not in the best shape...mainly due to how old they were. Grass was way overgrown throughout the majority of the park. We really like this park, as we've been coming here for years (and will continue to)...but it is need of a facelift.
