Westcott Beach

Overview

Westcott Beach State Park offers a classic lakeside camping experience on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario. Known for its expansive sandy beach and scenic views, this park balances natural beauty with functional camping facilities. It is a popular destination for those seeking a mix of woodland serenity and waterfront recreation. The park features rolling hills and open meadows that provide a sense of space often missing from private campgrounds, making it a peaceful retreat for nature lovers.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the town of Henderson, NY, the park sits at the edge of the Thousand Islands region. The surrounding area is characterized by the rugged beauty of the New York shoreline and lush greenery. Being right on the water, the park offers a prime vantage point for viewing spectacular sunsets over the lake every evening. Its location provides easy access to both the Great Lakes water system and the quiet, rural charm of the North Country landscape.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides approximately 168 campsites, many of which accommodate RVs with electric hookups available in specific loops. Visitors have access to essential facilities including modern bathhouses with hot showers and a convenient dumping station for RVers. For recreation within the park, there are several picnic areas, a playground for children, and a boat launch for those looking to explore the lake by motorized boat or kayak. The well-maintained hiking trails are perfect for those who enjoy a morning walk through the woods.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the beach, visitors can explore the nearby Sackets Harbor Battlefield, which offers a glimpse into local military history and beautiful architecture. For anglers, the area is famous for world-class fishing, particularly for bass and salmon in the deeper waters. Nature enthusiasts often head to the Southwick Beach State Park or the nearby wildlife management areas for birdwatching. The nearby village of Sackets Harbor also features charming boutique shops and local dining options for those wanting a day trip away from the campsite.

Who This Park Is Best For

Westcott Beach is an ideal choice for family-oriented RVers who prioritize water access and classic outdoor activities. It is best suited for travelers who prefer a natural, state-park atmosphere over a high-density commercial resort environment. If you enjoy falling asleep to the sound of waves and spending your days swimming or hiking through varied terrain, this park fits your travel style perfectly. It is also a great home base for photographers looking to capture the iconic light of the Lake Ontario shoreline.

Wonderful little spot that is perfect for little ones, especially if they're not strong swimmers. Make sure you pack out what you brought in because there are no garbage cans. Bathrooms are accessible. Playground is right next to the water. Loved it!

Nice campground with some electric sites. No water on site. Most are primitive sites. Several camping loops and with several bath houses that we did not go in. A couple of nice, small beach sites.

Great State Campgrounds. Clean bath houses with showers. Quite and friendly, dogs allowed and the best part is the beach, long sandbars that are perfect for all ages and pets. we had one of the beachfront sites.

Great place for a hot day. Large beach with 2 sides. 1 side is more for families with small kids. Floats allowed

$8 to get in. It’s a beautiful lake. You can go in up to your knees for a while. There is a lifeguard. The landscape is beautiful and there’s a great breeze. There’s plenty of grass to run around and make picnics. They have some barbecues, bring your own charcoal. Bring your pets because they’ll love it. There’s also a cute playground for children. There are restrooms.

Wescott Beach State Park is great! So great we wish it was closer to home! The views are fantastic of the lake. There is even a telescope to look out at some of the thousand islands nearby. This park has several amenities and a lot of charm to it. The spring trees were blossoming during our visit. It appears there is a camping area in addition to the park and beach areas. The playground seems newly renovated with a lot of fun features for kids. Loved that it had rubber instead of gravel or wood chips. The beaches here are sandy, not rocky, and the water looks shallow and crystal clear. Lots of shady trees and amenities to enjoy, including a boat/kayak launch area. Will definitely return again in the summer when it's open for swimming!
