White Oak Lake

Overview

White Oak Lake State Park is a tranquil retreat tucked away in the pine and hardwood forests of Southwest Arkansas. This state park surrounds the upper portion of a 1,032-acre lake, offering a quiet escape from the bustle of city life. Visitors are often struck by the serene natural beauty of the area, which serves as a sanctuary for diverse wildlife. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway or a longer immersion in nature, the park provides a well-rounded outdoor experience centered around the water and the woods.

Location & Surroundings

Located in Bluff City, AR, the park sits within a unique ecosystem characterized by its timberlands and proximity to the coastal plain. The landscape is dominated by towering pines and ancient oaks that provide ample shade for the camping areas. This secluded location ensures minimal light pollution, making it an excellent spot for stargazing after the sun sets over the lake. The surrounding region is largely rural, allowing for a genuine sense of solitude and connection with the Arkansas wilderness.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features well-maintained camping facilities including 45 RV campsites, many of which offer full hookups for a comfortable stay. Guests have access to modern bathhouses, a playground for children, and a visitor center that offers educational exhibits about local flora and fauna. For those looking to get on the water, the park provides a private boat launch and a marina where visitors can rent kayaks, canoes, or pedal boats to explore the lake's hidden coves and quiet shorelines.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the Fern Hollow Trail, a popular route for both hikers and mountain bikers that winds through the varied terrain of the park. Fishing is a major draw here, with the lake being well-stocked with bass, crappie, and catfish. Just a short drive away, history buffs can visit the Poison Springs Battleground State Park, which offers insight into Civil War history in Arkansas. The nearby town of Camden provides additional shopping and dining options for those needing supplies.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal destination for nature photographers and birdwatchers who appreciate the quiet observation of local species like bald eagles and herons. It is also perfectly suited for families seeking a traditional camping experience where the focus is on outdoor recreation and quality time by the campfire. Because of the well-spaced sites and quiet atmosphere, it is a favorite for RVers who prefer a rustic, state park environment over the crowded feel of a high-traffic commercial resort.

I camped and hiked here, and saw lots of others fishing. Great camping sites, many with a lake view! Spots to pitch a hammock lakeside. Trails were nice and soft with all the sand and pine needles on the ground. Bathrooms/showers were clean, too. I'd definitely recommend!

I like the weekend trip to this state park. The state park is really mainly for fishing and there are few trails to explore. Since it was the weekend a lot of campers were there. Not the state park’s fault but it was kind of loud in our area. Overall we had fun and it was relaxing.

Great place for a quiet weekend. Fishing is probably the biggest draw - while we didn't fish, we did enjoy a hike and views.

I had reserved ahead of time online so, no issues whatsoever. I arrived late, around 6:00 p.m. on a Thursday night and a friendly note on the door told me which campsite to go to. It is beautiful, forested, and if you choose your site through the photos on the website, you can get a lakefront view. Absolutely gorgeous. The biggest negative to my tent camping experience was an RV family a few campsites away that didn't understand the meaning of "quiet time after 10:00 p.m." I wish that tent sites were not on top of gravel but c'est la vie. That's just the way so many campgrounds these days do it. The bathhouse and showers were spotless, power hookup easy inconvenient, water source right next to the site. If I'm ever passing through that way again, I'll definitely consider another camping experience at White Oak Lake, but I'll remember my earplugs next time.

Has both walking and biking trails - nice width and clean, bathroom facilities, water sports, camping, and more. I had a vert nice time walking my dog on the trails and having a picnic afterward. I stopped by while traveling to stretch my legs and picnic. I would recommend this park.

We spent Thanksgiving week there. It was awesome. The lake was drained down for maintenance but still a nice place to relax. Lots of gunfire at the nearby shooting range, so beware of that in case your dogs are sensitive to that. Awesome trails and picnic areas.

Peaceful and quiet. There are 4 trails worth walking. One is 1/3 mile, one is a little over a mile, one is 3 miles, and the other is 10 miles. Easy trails. Beautiful scenery. No antenna channels. Verizon and ATT work well. Not much to do, as nearest town is 17 miles away. Come prepared to enjoy the solitude, kayak rentals, bike rentals, firewood, ice, and a camp store.
