White River/Lowry

Overview

Located within the majestic White River National Forest, the Lowry Campground offers a quintessential Colorado mountain experience. Sitting at an elevation of approximately 9,000 feet, this facility provides visitors with sweeping views of the surrounding peaks and easy access to high-country recreation. Unlike many rustic forest sites, this park blends a natural aesthetic with essential comforts, making it a popular basecamp for those exploring the Summit County area during the warmer summer months.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated on a hillside overlooking the stunning Dillon Reservoir, just a short drive from the towns of Dillon and Silverthorne. The landscape is characterized by open sagebrush and young lodgepole pines, which allows for unobstructed mountain vistas of the Tenmile Range. Its proximity to Swan Mountain Road ensures that travelers are never far from local services while still feeling immersed in the rugged beauty of the Colorado Rockies.

Amenities & Park Features

While the setting is natural and serene, the park provides electric hookups at many of its sites, a rare and highly valued feature for National Forest campgrounds. Visitors have access to vault toilets and hand-pumped drinking water, though it is important to note there are no sewer or water hookups at individual sites. Each spot is equipped with a heavy-duty fire ring and a picnic table, encouraging guests to enjoy the crisp mountain air and starry nights.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities, as the park is adjacent to the Summit County Recreational Pathway System, perfect for cycling and walking. A short trip leads to the Dillon Marina for boating and fishing, or to the nearby Sapphire Point Overlook for breathtaking photography. Hiking is a primary draw, with the Old Dillon Reservoir Trail providing a moderate trek with rewarding views of the water and the peaks beyond.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for nature-loving RVers who prefer a peaceful environment over the bustle of a full-service resort. It is a fantastic choice for photographers and hikers who want to be close to the action of world-class mountain towns while sleeping under the stars. Because it offers a primitive yet powered experience, it perfectly suits travelers who enjoy boondocking aesthetics but appreciate the convenience of electricity for their rigs.

No water for a while until they fix the burst pipe. 9 mins drive to dump station & fresh water fill up at the bottom of hill. Small & quiet with great views. There are plenty of spaces between each site except sites 17, 18 & 19

The only thing keeping me from giving it a 5 is that it would be perfect with water, sewer hook ups but everything else is perfect. The host, the scenery, clean restrooms & what a view

AVOID. Uneven camping spots, difficult sites to get in and out of, and despite the fact that you are literally on top of a reservoir, they make you do elsewhere to get water for your RV! It's nearly 20min r/t burning gas and towing a full trailer to get the ONE thing you need in order to successfully camp- water. I've never been to a campground in Colorado that pretty much exclusively caters to RVs that doesn't allow you to fill your tank. Where is your campsite fee going to?? Not to replacing the ancient picnic tables! No shady spots either.

5⭐️ for friendliness and efficiency of the camp hosts! No bath house, but the vault toilet house was perfectly clean/and no bad smells! In the one day we visited the bathrooms were cleaned 3 times!! The views were beautiful and lots of different wildflowers throughout. One suggestion: hand sanitizers at the bathrooms! Sites 8 & 9 were very close but since we were together that was okay.

Hidden gem! 360 degree Rocky Mountain views in White River Nat’l Forest with overlook on the Dillon Reservoir. This is a nature focused, no-frills campground, but really has all you need, especially if you love the outdoors & glorious views! Spacious, gravel sites are full-sun with electric hook-up. *Limited water spigot access/use. Equipped with picnic table, fire pit, grill, & bear locker. Public restrooms. Super nice host! Dump station & fill is only a few miles away in town. Still scratching my head as to why this campground wasn’t full in CO in June.

Great campsite with amazing views! Camp host is super nice and does a great job of keeping up the grounds and facilities. All sites have electric ($37) except 1 site without ($26). A few tent sites are available too. Close to trails and a perfect location between Breckenridge, Frisco, Dillon and Silverthorne.

Great tent site if you don’t mind RV neighbors. We had site 19 which offered a nice view. Toilets were always kept clean. Only disappointment was that there was no spigot water available at the time and we didn’t know ahead of time. Great location in Dillon in proximity to cool outdoor fun options. Would come again.

Had a great experience at this campground. The groundskeeper was nice and always helpful. Great and clean facility. The restrooms were the cleanest I have ever seen at any campground I have been to. Definitely recommend Lowry Campground for your next outdoor adventure.

Our spot was double booked and the host was "off duty" for our while stay so we had to work it out ourselves. Our Site was #12 and for a tent is the best spot in the whole place, very lush and private. The rest of the campground is kind of like an open parking lot. Great location to town and the lake though
