Wild Duck Adult Campground & RV Park

Overview

Wild Duck Adult Campground & RV Park provides a uniquely tranquil escape for travelers seeking a kid-free environment in Southern Maine. Located in the picturesque coastal town of Scarborough, this park is designed specifically for adults aged 21 and over, ensuring a quiet and relaxing atmosphere for every guest. The grounds are meticulously maintained, offering a peaceful retreat that focuses on nature and serenity rather than the high-energy activities found at typical family resorts. It serves as an ideal base for those who want a restful camping experience while staying close to the Atlantic coast.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated directly on the edge of the Scarborough Marsh, the largest salt marsh in Maine. This prime location provides stunning views and incredible opportunities for wildlife observation right from your campsite. The surrounding landscape is defined by tidal waters and lush greenery, creating a sanctuary where the sounds of nature replace the hum of traffic. Despite its secluded feel, the park offers easy access to the sandy beaches of the region, providing a perfect balance between a woodland retreat and a coastal vacation.

Amenities & Park Features

Campers can expect modern conveniences tailored for a comfortable stay. The park features full hookup sites with both 30 and 50-amp service, easily accommodating large motorhomes and travel trailers. To keep guests connected, high-speed WiFi and cable TV are provided at the sites. On-site facilities include a clean bathhouse and convenient laundry rooms. For those looking to explore the water, the park offers kayak and canoe rentals, allowing guests to launch directly into the marsh channels to observe herons, egrets, and other local bird species.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure is never far away, with the vibrant atmosphere of Old Orchard Beach and its historic pier just a short drive from the park. For a more sophisticated urban experience, the Old Port district in Portland offers world-class dining, boutique shopping, and maritime history. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the nearby Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center, while beach lovers can choose between the quiet sands of Pine Point Beach or the famous surf at Higgins Beach. The proximity to local seafood shacks ensures a fresh lobster dinner is always accessible.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is the perfect fit for couples and solo travelers who prioritize a calm, mature environment. If you are an RVer looking to avoid the noise of playgrounds and splash pads, Wild Duck offers the quietude you crave. It is especially well-suited for birdwatchers and paddlers who want to be steps away from the water. Travelers using Scarborough as a hub to explore the broader Maine coast will find the park's central location and high standards for cleanliness provide a reliable and refreshing home base.

Great park! Good location, pet friendly, clean facilites and helpful staff make this little oasis a must stay. We enjoyed our week at the campground. We plan to return. Keep up the good work.

My partner and I camped here in a tent for 6 weeks from August until October. We had a wonderful experience. The staff are very friendly and take great care of the campground. I noticed that they sweep each campsite/RV site after someone leaves to make sure it's pristine for the next guest! The showers are very clean and free (huge bonus!) and the water stays hot. The on-site laundry is convenient and the washers/dryers are large. The location is idyllic and in close proximity to Portland and Old Orchard Beach. Being an adult-only campsite, it was very relaxed and everyone was polite and considerate of others, especially during nighttime hours. I don't have a single complaint. We were so comfortable living here for such a long time and we would happily stay again!

First of all, this is a great central location close to much of the southern Maine Coast; drivable to Ogunquit, Kennybunkport, Saco, Old Orchard, Freeport, and Portland. A Maine Eastern Trail cycling/walking entrance is a short bike ride down the road. The Eastern Trail is still broken up into disconnected segments, but you can traverse regular roads to make the connections. There is a beautiful marsh area right down the road with a lovely walking path. The campground itself is decent, in a grove of giant lovely pine trees. But the desireability of the individual sites varies so carefully peruse the site map. The pull through sites in the middle are ok, but the exterior circle is much nicer. The front sites are brighter with nicer views than the back sites. In general the sites are small, but pretty comparable to most campgrounds these days. Most have power, water and sewer hookups. There are only a few 50amp sites, most are 30amp. All sites have a picnic tables and a fire pit. The bathhouse is clean. 2 showers in the men's and women's bathrooms. The cleaning crew gets a little grumpy if you are showering when they want to clean. There is a spot outside to wash dishes if you want and a decent washer/dryer room. Cost is $2/load. The woman in the office is very sweet and helpful. They lock the gate at night so be sure to get the codes.

It was nice and relaxing. Bathrooms outdated and clean. Camping sites are very small, leaving many people to be extremely nosey. If your a POC people's eyes are on you like your a criminal. When at the site we stayed mostly in the tent because of the looks. Overall quiet and peaceful except for the nights people would come in late 11pm set up there camp driving back and forth to bathrooms wakes up other campers that sleep in tents. Not a place for my partner and I to go back too. People running the office was super nice and helpful. Hospitality was on point.

We frequently stay at Wild Duck Campground as it is close to our family in Portland. Nice, clean, and mostly level, wooded spots. Bathrooms and laundry rooms are clean but in disrepair. The same two dryers have been broken since we stayed in 2024. The same toilet in the men’s room remains broken.

A Gem of a campground! We have stayed twice. It is a very quiet and clean place, in a forested area. Nice view of the nearby marsh. We love the convenience to Portland and Old Orchard Beach. Would have loved to kayak, but it was too cold and windy. You can launch a kayak from the campground.

We absolutely loved our weekend away at Wild duck campground. Sue was a delight at check in, so kind and helpful. The location is beautiful right on the marsh. It’s a short drive to Portland and Old Orchard Beach. If you are looking for quiet and relaxing, this is the place.

An adults only campground is probably one of the best things I’ve come across. It was so quiet and nice there, I miss it already. No screaming children is my idea of heaven. Beautiful location. Clean and nice bathroom, laundry service was great. If I ever make my way up to Scarborough Maine again, I am definitely staying again. Also Sue at the front desk was a delight.

Highly recommend Wild Duck if you are looking for a place to unwind from the norm. The place was so quiet on a Saturday night you could hear a pin drop. Very clean, sites are level, sand/gravel, hook ups are close to the camper so no need for 50 feet of water hose, bathrooms where clean, hot showers, nice staff, firewood delivery, and great atmosphere. One lane road coming and going so you do need to pay attention to make sure no one is trying to go your direction, or you will have to back up. Sites can be a little tight as i had a 32' travel trailer and did end up swinging my front end along another's site to make the turn but made it work. Again HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend and will definitely be back. I was in site 21 in front of the tent sites.

Love this place… friendly staff, clean and well kept sites and bathroom. A lot of the sites are very close together. I’d say that if you want a nice view, sites 19-33 are the best, overlooking the marshes. Our site looked over the forest, but it was also lovely. And QUIET. We were there in early June, which was not as busy there. But it was so peaceful. The campground is also nice and close to OOB, and about 20 min to Portland.
