Woodhead Park
Overview
Woodhead Park is a meticulously maintained oasis managed by Idaho Power along the scenic shores of the Snake River. Situated near Cambridge, Idaho, this park serves as a premier gateway to the rugged beauty of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. Visitors often appreciate the striking contrast between the lush green grass and the steep, rocky canyon walls that surround the reservoir. It is a peaceful destination that prioritizes comfort and accessibility within a vast wilderness setting.
Location & Surroundings
The park is located directly on the Hells Canyon Reservoir, offering expansive water views and direct access to the Snake River. The surroundings are characterized by the dramatic topography of North America's deepest river gorge. Because of its unique position deep in the canyon, the park is protected by towering cliffs that provide a sense of isolation and grandeur, making it a perfect spot for scenic photography and observing local wildlife such as bighorn sheep and eagles.
Amenities & Park Features
Woodhead Park provides well-spaced sites equipped with electricity and water hookups, accommodating a variety of RV sizes and configurations. The facility is widely known for its cleanliness, offering modern restrooms and hot showers for all guests. Boaters and anglers will appreciate the multi-lane boat ramp and the dedicated fish cleaning station located on-site. Other features include a convenient dump station, sturdy fire rings, and large, shaded picnic areas that offer a cool respite during the summer months.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Water-based recreation is the primary draw for visitors, with world-class opportunities for trophy fishing for sturgeon, bass, and trout. Just a short drive further into the canyon, visitors can explore the Hells Canyon Dam or embark on a jet boat tour to experience the most remote sections of the river. The surrounding area also features several hiking trails that wind through the hills, providing panoramic views of the water and the rugged Idaho-Oregon border.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal choice for anglers and boaters who want immediate access to the reservoir without sacrificing modern comforts and manicured grounds. It is also a fantastic option for families who enjoy a traditional camping atmosphere with plenty of open space for activities. If you are an RVer looking for a well-managed base camp to explore the wonders of Hells Canyon, Woodhead Park offers a perfect balance of utility and natural beauty.

Our families have met here at Woodhead park for years. We fish, laugh and have a wonderful time. This year was different. The female host approached us in the evening of our first night BEFORE QUIET HOURS BEGAN and warned us we were talking too loud. Next day she warned one of our family members that the children were playing too loud, describing this was NOT a ‘child friendly park’. It was strictly a fishing park. This was witnessed by two family members. Myself being one of them. Dear IdahoPower. Please pick next years host as someone who enforces the rule's, but also enjoys laughter, children and presence of families. Or maybe change your pamphlet to adult only. No talking, no laughing and NO KIDS WELCOME. SIGNED SAD CAMPER.

We love our visits to Woodhead Park, but the off-season, winter camping is pretty magical. Lots of wildlife, including bald eagles. Idaho Power has really created a beautiful and comfortable experience. Great job!

Camp host are absolutely amazing. They are super friendly and go out of their way to help you. They continue to monitor the park through out the day. They provide free fire wood and a little library. Beautiful view, and perfect for boating, fishing, or paddle boards. They even have an area to clean the fish. Campsite has a fire ring and picnic table. No WiFi unless you purchase it. Even when you purchase the WiFi, it is really spotty service. The park has paved trails and gravel trails but limited shaded areas. I saw a buck , doe and two baby deer. Restroom are the cleanest I’ve seen for a campground. The showers are single unit which is nice for security. The road to get to the campground is 30 minutes from Cambridge and curvy all the way from Cambridge to Park.

Nice Idaho Power campground area and park in Hells Canyon. We watched elk grazing the hillside above this lovely park on a chilly winter day. Clean, heated, restrooms. A bike station with tools and air. A little interpretive area with informational signs. Nice campground with established trees. All located on the banks of Brownlee Reservoir. We will be back to camp and fish with the kids.

One of our favorite campgrounds. An absolutely gorgeous view. Camp host has gone above and beyond to help with reservations. Friendly during our stays. Bathrooms and campground are always clean. If you haven't been there you really need to go. Breathe taking.
