Woodland Village RV Park

Overview

Woodland Village RV Park offers a peaceful, wooded setting for travelers looking to explore Northern Indiana. As a well-established community in Portage, this park provides a unique mix of long-term residents and seasonal visitors, creating a stable and quiet atmosphere for everyone. The grounds are characterized by mature trees that offer natural shade and a sense of privacy, making it a reliable choice for those who prefer a more residential feel over a high-turnover resort environment. It functions as a calm retreat within a busy corridor.

Location & Surroundings

Strategically located in Portage, Indiana, the park sits just south of the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. Its proximity to major transit routes like I-94 and the Indiana Toll Road makes it an incredibly convenient stop for those crossing the Midwest. Despite being close to these vital highways, the park maintains a secluded vibe thanks to its natural landscaping and wooded perimeter, which helps shield guests from the hustle and bustle of the nearby industrial and commercial centers.

Amenities & Park Features

The park focuses on providing essential comforts for a hassle-free stay. Guests can enjoy full hookup sites equipped with 30 and 50-amp electricity, water, and sewer connections. The layout includes paved roads that facilitate easy navigation for various rig sizes. On-site facilities include the following features:

  • Clean laundry facilities for guest convenience.
  • Restroom and shower structures.
  • Paved interior roads for easy access.
  • A pet-friendly policy for travelers with animals.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw for visitors is the proximity to the Indiana Dunes National Park, where miles of hiking trails and massive sandy beaches await exploration. Outdoor enthusiasts can spend days discovering the diverse ecosystems of the dunes or fishing at the Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk. For those seeking urban entertainment, the park serves as a perfect gateway to Chicago, which is accessible via a short drive or the nearby South Shore Line commuter train, offering world-class dining and cultural museums.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for travelers seeking a quiet, no-frills home base while exploring the Great Lakes region. It appeals specifically to those who value a mature, wooded environment over flashy recreational amenities or organized activities. Because of its layout and community feel, it is particularly well-suited for extended-stay RVers or workers in the region who need a reliable, paved spot with full utility support near major Indiana transportation corridors.

Got a reservation at the last minute when our car broke down. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Its very peaceful and the sites are spacious.

The owner is horrible! He doesn't care what his staff does and he's impossible to contact. His employee Don is pure evil. He mercilessly harassed my son with special needs and then had us kicked out. My RV was broke down so I couldn't move it in time. On the way to our hotel we were in a car crash. It was our first load. My puppies were still in the RV and he shut off our electric in extremely hot weather! The electric was in my name! He could have killed my puppies. I called the police and they didn't care! I was able to get my pups that night at least, but I still had other stuff there. Then I wasn't allowed to go back to get the rest of my stuff! They kept my RV and my things! I did report them to an Indiana disability advocate. They're known for discrimination against people with disabilities or special needs. I don't understand why they don't get into trouble?

Do not stay here. This place is almost entirely full-timers and is very run down. Between the train just outside the park and the constant howling of the neglected dogs owned by the residents, we barely got any sleep. Also not good for big rigs - 90 degree backins only - and nowhere to park while you look for the office. You just have to block the entrance. Fortunately, we were just passing through for a night, but here's the worst part: we pulled in at 4:10pm and the office was closed. Some random guy came out of the park and asked that we pay $50 CASH ONLY to show us which site is ours. He called it an "after hours check in fee".. at 4 in the afternoon. You're better off just parking your rig in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn just down the road.

Great experience. This is a MH/RV park with full time residents and also RVers passing through on vacations. Front desk office staff were very friendly and the maintenance man even gave us an escort to our site and assisted me as a ground guide to back the trailer into the spot on my 2nd attempt (better directions than my wife - but don't tell her!!) Site has full hookups (water, 12v/30A/5A electric, sewer), most have concrete parking pads and concrete "patios". Site is clean and quiet (a little more traffic than normal as some full time residents work shift work at the nearby mills and refineries, but still not bad, and everyone was respectable and quiet). Park is very large, but also has onsite laundry, office, shower/toilet facilities, and a convenience/liquor store for all your late night goodies and sundries. Park is very close to the Indiana Dunes State Park and National Park and many fabulous sandy beaches and dunes. We had a wonderful experience and look forward to returning again.

Very nice park. Very heavy train traffic so until you get use to it but otherwise fairly quiet

The park is great. Friendly, flexible staff. Trees and shade. Clean. Did not use restrooms. Downfall is the train tracks and traffic noise. Trains actually shake the ground all times of day. Hard to sleep.

I like this park. Friendly staff, quiet area as far as no one bothers anything. Not far from shopping and restaurants. Unlike most RV parks, here you get a yard that you take care of yourself. No bathhouse with showers but your RV should have that. There is laundry and a store at the front. Open year round, pet friendly and family friendly.

Worked for a few nights as we passed through. Close to Indiana dunes national park and as mentioned there is a dog park you can walk through the woods to get to. Or drive if you need to. You really just paying to park, unless I missed it I didn’t see a shower or bathroom area. It was a tight fit with the 90° back in. I did fit my 42 foot fifth wheel and parked my 1 ton truck next to it. The people here seem very friendly of the staff was nice. The train is loud and does shake the RV a little bit as it rolls through. The coin laundry nearby is $3.25 per load which is a bit high.

Nice park Well maintained. Mostly long term workers at industries in the area. Open year round is a plus Getting used to the trains nearby.

Please be aware that this is not a recreational campground. Although we did have a fire ring, there were no picnic tables anywhere. This place is more for someplace to park your camper while working in the area. But even then be aware that you will be listening to traffic and trains! All. Night. Long.
