Woodward Reservoir

Overview

Woodward Reservoir Regional Park serves as a premier outdoor destination in Stanislaus County, offering a massive expanse for recreation and relaxation. This park is centered around a 3,000-acre reservoir that provides a refreshing escape for RV travelers exploring the valley. With a mix of developed campgrounds and primitive shoreline areas, it balances the needs of modern campers with the desire for a scenic waterfront experience. The park is widely known for its open water and family-friendly atmosphere.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled just north of the town of Oakdale, the park is surrounded by the iconic rolling hills of the California Central Valley. Its location makes it a vital gateway for those traveling toward the Sierra Nevada mountains or Yosemite. The landscape is characterized by wide-open vistas, providing a sense of seclusion despite being a short drive from local services. The area remains a hub for agricultural beauty, with orchards and ranch lands defining the drive into the park.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-equipped to handle various RV sizes, featuring several campgrounds with different levels of service. Travelers can find full hookup sites at T-Island that include electricity, water, and sewer connections for a comfortable stay. Essential park features include:

  • Multiple paved boat launch ramps for easy water access.
  • Dedicated swimming beaches and shaded picnic areas for day use.
  • Restroom facilities and conveniently located shower houses.
  • An on-site RV dump station for guest convenience.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The reservoir is a magnet for water sports enthusiasts, offering ample room for jet skiing and sailing across the surface. Fishing is another major draw, with the waters regularly stocked with trout, bass, and catfish for anglers of all levels. For those who prefer land-based activities, the park offers excellent opportunities for bird watching and photography. Just a short drive away, the town of Oakdale offers a unique experience as the Cowboy Capital of the World, featuring local western history and dining.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for active families who want to spend their days on the water and their evenings around a campfire. It is also an excellent choice for groups looking for a social atmosphere during the peak summer season. Because of the large pull-through sites, it is particularly well-suited for big-rig owners who need more space than standard campgrounds offer. Whether you are a dedicated angler or a weekend traveler, this park provides the recreational versatility you need.

I live 10 minutes away from the reservoir. I go at least twice a week. It is so beautiful and peaceful this time of year.

We went on Sunday, Labor Day weekend after 5 pm to spend a couple of hours with family. We came in three vehicles, a total of 8 people and paid ridiculous admission fees of $75. The park is littered with trash and garbage. Water sprinklers went off on us causing everyone sitting in that area to pack up and leave.

Very nice staff. Clean restrooms, we were near a small store they have onsite. This reservoir does not allow kayaks. Water was refreshing and good atmosphere.

Local reservoir with lots of full hook-up sites as well as tent camping. For the price it's a good option if you want to get away.

I am a disabled resident, when I came in let the guy know about it, at the time of pay. His name on the receipt is CBlack. He was rude with his replies, in his words, "Well, it's $20." I told him if he can take $18, since we always pay $15. And to which he responded, "Well, it's $20, prices went up a year ago, you can pay with a card." I called today on my way out and I was told to let them know at the booth on my way out and they were going to reimburse me the $5. A guy was about to give me a reimbursement form and the same guy that charged me the day before was there and told him not to give it to me that I can go to the website if I want to, which to which the other guy did listen to him. The way he spoke seemed a bunch of lack of customer service or discrimination. To better picture him would be, Caucasian, very long blond hair with a northern country voice.

It’s a really beautiful park, and what’s even better is that you can camp here. However, some areas require reservations. Another side note is that it sure gets packed during the summer, and sometimes, there can be people blasting some loud music during the night at that time. (Luckily I went there before the summer since there is less people compared to the time during the summer). But other than that, it’s a really great park for those who want to either walk, go swim on the lake, and even go camping.

Love this camp site! It’s a good getaway around 209 . I would recommend also if you like to party haha. There is a lot of bugs but that’s what your gonna get when your outside. The restrooms and showers are pretty dirty but again it’s camping not glamping. I always go here with family and never had a problem with our camp neighbors. If you don’t like bugs, dirty showers/restrooms or loud music I wouldn’t recommend for you. (Pet friendly)

Woodward reservoir. Fischer point, dry camping, Site 18. (No Hook ups) Great spot. Easy to back in, my 33ft travel trailer. Did have to level side to side. Tow vehicle fit next to the trailer with room to spare. There are a few water spigots throughout the camp. luckily18 has one. Went Nov 3-5. Out of 32 available camp spots, only 3 campers there. Myself included. Nice and quiet.

We went on a Saturday around 1pm,line was already long at the entrance. It took us 30 mins to get in and paid our fees which was $20 for a day use. The location where we at was on south drive next to Muir point campground near the Duck cove. We stayed to watched the sunset and also able to capture the strawberry moon which I thought was just a regular fullmoon. It was a lovely evening to spend such a relaxing time with friends and family.
