Absolutely love this place!! We fell upon this place; we were supposed to stay at Moose River Plains campground but somehow ended up at Eight Lake Campground and couldn’t have been happier!! The cam area is very big and we had plenty of room to fit our SuV and tent right near each other. We had a nice view of the lake. The other campers are not on top of you like if you went to a KOA campground and it is very peaceful. We heard owls we saw chipmunks and we saw a few fish. Definitely worth the trip.

State run campground, respectable free showers and bathrooms kept serviceable and clean. Better than some stores I might say. Roomy for multiple tents or modest trailers, a sizable sandy beach with clear lake water and small launch dock. Rentable canoes, basic supplies and wood available within business hours as well as a recyclable center. During a four day trip with three different campgrounds this one took the cake for mountain lake mental imagery. The only caveat I would say is the fireplace is a little worn down, as a staple of each campsite, should be the one consistent thing maintained. (Varies by campsite mine was more roughshod then most, but still serviceable) Remember, it’s an affordable public state park and campground. Not a private run HOA style maintained campground.

The campground has nice spacing between sites, and our pad on site 114 was in great shape with a great view of Seventh Lake. We enjoyed a quiet paddle in the lake with numerous places to explore. Military jets flew over each morning, which was cool to see and hear. We enjoyed a nice hike out to Bug Lake where we spotted a couple of loons. The one big negative is that the roads in the campground are in horrible shape. They are supposed to be getting paved soon. Let's hope so before someone loses a camper in one of those potholes.

One of my favorite campgrounds. We had a beautiful site right on the water and the fall foliage grew more beautiful and colorful everyday. Quick drive to Inlet for forgotten items and groceries if need be. Only gripe with this campground is the pot holes. Fortunately we have a “off grid” style pop up so we didn’t bottom out but saw plenty of campers that did. Good mix of campsites especially on the road that connects 7th and 8th lake. Spacious, private ish and level. Most certainly prefer the sites on the 7th lake side as they get the afternoon sun. Picture perfect weekend. Bathrooms are in need of updating but had soap and TP, showers had hot water. Will be back again for sure!

Have visited for last 15 years. Rustic camping with sites separated by trees. Many lake sites but you have to reserve early early early. Only concern is entry and exit roads that are rough and have high raised middle that can scrape bottom of vehicle. Visit to the Cathedral of Pines nearby is recommended. Never seen pine trees that large in NY.

There are a lot of sites to accommodate all. Can't give 5 stars because I'm a glamper not a camper. No power except my generator and their generator hrs kinda sucked! I'm up very early and don't want to wait until 9AM for a cup of coffee. So I had to brew it the night before and heat it up on the stove. Will make other arrangements in the future for that problem. Would recommend it. Will go again.

First time back here in about 15 years and I'm happy to say it's mostly the same as it has always been, with a few welcome updates to the campsites to level them off and make them less flood-prone. The lake is as beautiful as it ever was.

Eight Lake is a great campground to unplug (no cell service) and unwind! My family has been camping here for over 50 years! First time camping here was when I was 10, we camped on the Eighth Lake side on campsite #29, $2 a night! 52 years later and we are still camping here! I camped with my husband and my son’s family we camped on the Seventh Lake side we were on site #117 very large site right across from the boat launch and dock, get view of the lake even from across the street. Son was on site #114 huge site right on the lake. There are not a lot of sites lakeside, but the ones that are have great access to the water. Most of the sites at the campground are large and well spaced out and very wooded. Sites are $22 a night (amazing only a $20 increase in price 52 years later)! The lakes are beautiful and the water is crystal clear and listening to the call of the loons was wonderful. Definitely recommend the hiking trail to Bug Lake, the trail head is just before the entrance to the Seventh Lake side of the campground. Great campground for getting around on your bike. The staff is super friendly! I highly recommend this campground it is so peaceful and quiet!
