Adirondack/Fish Creek Pond
Overview
Fish Creek Pond Public Campground offers one of the most iconic camping experiences in the Adirondack Mountains. Located near Saranac Lake, this destination is legendary among RVers for its waterfront campsites, where travelers can park their rigs just steps from the shore. Unlike modern paved resorts, this park provides a true immersion into the North Country wilderness, characterized by towering white pines and the sound of loons echoing across the water. It is a place where the focus remains entirely on the natural beauty of the Adirondack Park and the serene rhythm of lake life.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the heart of the 3,500-acre St. Regis Canoe Area, the park is nestled between Fish Creek Pond and Square Pond. The surrounding landscape is a lush tapestry of birch, maple, and balsam fir trees. The Upper Saranac Lake region provides a vast network of interconnected waterways, making it a premier destination for those who enjoy exploring by boat. The geography here is flat and accessible, yet it feels deeply secluded, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle of more developed tourist corridors while remaining close to the amenities of Saranac Lake.
Amenities & Park Features
The primary draw of this facility is its unique layout; nearly every site offers direct water access and a private shoreline. While the park maintains a rustic vibe without electric or water hookups at individual sites, it provides essential comforts including clean restrooms, hot showers, and a convenient dump station. A major highlight is the paved interior road, which stretches for miles and serves as a popular loop for cyclists and walkers. Additionally, the park features multiple natural sand beaches, a boat launch, and an amphitheater for educational nature programs during the summer months.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the campground boundaries, the region is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Paddling is the most popular activity, with easy access to the St. Regis Canoe Area for day trips or overnight excursions. Hikers can challenge themselves on nearby trails such as Floodwood Mountain or the Otter Hollow Loop. For a change of pace, a short drive leads to The Wild Center in Tupper Lake, an award-winning natural history museum with an elevated treetop walk. The nearby Olympic village of Lake Placid also offers world-class dining and historical tours just 20 miles away.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for self-contained RVers who value scenery and site privacy over resort-style amenities. It is a paradise for families who enjoy swimming and biking, as well as anglers looking to catch bass or northern pike right from their campsite. Because there are no hookups, it is best suited for travelers prepared for dry camping or those with solar setups. If your goal is to wake up to a sunrise over the water and spend your days on a kayak, Fish Creek Pond is an unmatched Adirondack destination.

While Lake Saranac is a beautiful lake, the camping at Fish Creek Pond leaves a lot to be desired. There was the surly gate attendant who failed to give us a map, the map - which was provided by another camper - which was inconsistently labeled to the actual sites, the showers which were a mile away and were unbearably hot. The site we had, which was in A loop (and not AO loop as indicated on the map) was way more spacious than the tiny lakeside sites. So that was a tiny plus. Also, be aware that there are no electric sites in the park.

Beautiful campground! Bathrooms are clean and well kept. Dishwasher stations available with regular patrols. There is also trucks that drive around with a bell for ice to buy :) Kind if wish they had an ice cream truck but that'd be way above and beyond lol

For families, this has got to be a dream. Facilities, waterfront sites, convenient to regional activities. It is popular, thus full, this loud. The sound of loons and coyotes in the distance compete with shouting children (and parents), and humming powered camping equipment. Pop in some ear plugs and focus on the view, it's lovely.

A great camp spot! Everything is clean and well maintained. Bathrooms are within walking distance from most sites, but you'll likely need to drive or bike to the shower building. The only negative was that the firepits were more set up for cooking and not sitting around the fire necessarily. For 2-4 people it would be fine but any larger of a group and it would be awkward.

This was our first camping trip in years and our first time in the Adirondacks, so we weren't sure what to expect. We stayed here in July of 2024 and had a fantastic experience! We enjoyed our stay so much that we ended up extending it by two nights. Nearly every site is waterfront, so you can launch a kayak or canoe straight from your campsite or enjoy reading and relaxing by the water. Our site was fairly big. There wasn't a lot of privacy, but we didn't feel crowded. People seemed to mostly respect the quiet hours when we were there. The restrooms seemed to be cleaned frequently. The showers were in one big building at the very end of the campground and were free. There were also lots of outdoor activities to choose from. Of course, boating and fishing are major attractions, but there were also several hiking trails to choose from that left from the campground. Near the entrance, there is also a day-use area with picnic tables, a playground, and a beach where you can swim. We loved this campground--we will definitely be back!
