Adirondack/Limekiln Lake Campground
Overview
Located in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, Limekiln Lake Campground offers a quintessential wilderness experience for RVers looking to disconnect. This expansive New York State DEC facility features 271 campsites nestled among towering pines and northern hardwoods. It provides a peaceful atmosphere where the sounds of loons and the smell of campfire smoke define the stay. The park is well-regarded for its spacious, private campsites that offer a true sense of seclusion within the forest.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just south of the charming village of Inlet, NY, the campground sits on the shores of the 450-acre Limekiln Lake. The surrounding terrain is part of the Moose River Plains Wild Forest, providing a gateway to thousands of acres of protected wilderness. The elevation and dense tree cover keep the park cool during summer months. Travelers will appreciate the scenic drive along Route 28, which offers stunning views of the Fulton Chain of Lakes and the rolling mountain landscape.
Amenities & Park Features
This is a rustic destination, meaning there are no water or electric hookups at the individual sites. However, the park is well-equipped with essential facilities including flush toilets, hot showers, and a convenient dump station for RVs. The highlight of the park is the sandy swimming beach and the accessible boat launch. For those who enjoy being on the water, the lake is perfect for non-motorized craft or small motorboats, as there is a 25-horsepower limit to maintain the lake's tranquility.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure is never far away, with the popular Enchanted Forest Water Safari in nearby Old Forge providing a day of family fun. Hikers can tackle the trails at Rocky Mountain or Black Bear Mountain for panoramic views of the region. The Fulton Chain of Lakes offers endless opportunities for paddling and fishing, while the town of Inlet provides quaint boutiques and local eateries. Wildlife viewing is also a major draw, as deer and even black bears are frequently spotted in the area.
Who This Park Is Best For
Limekiln Lake is ideal for self-contained RV travelers who prioritize nature over resort-style luxuries. If you enjoy falling asleep to the rustle of leaves and spending your days on the water, this is the perfect fit. It is particularly suited for families seeking an authentic Adirondack camping experience and outdoor enthusiasts who want a basecamp for hiking and paddling. It is best for those who are prepared for dry camping while still having access to clean, modern bathhouse facilities.

Just a wonderful place, close to a great town Inlet and Old Forge. Bear proof containers for food and coolers, plenty of amenities.

It's a nice campground at $20 a night. If you are wanting piece and quiet this isn't the place. Stayed 3 nights. People were very loud and obnoxious and it didn't matter what time it was. Quiet time is between 10pm and 7am but it is not enforced like they say it is. First night was ok. 2 night got woke up at 3am because someone was slamming doors. 3rd night people weren't quiet it well after midnight then got woke up at 6am by someone's dog barking for over an hour. Don't bring your dog if you can't control it as it will eventually ruin it for other people that like to bring their dogs. It was $20 for a canoe rental for 24 hours. There's a couple trails to walk. The only bathroom stalls that had a lock on the door were the ones where the showers were and one was so rusted the lock didn't work. First time going and probably the last. Will not recommend

Truly a scenic and cozy campground. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. They answered all my questions and reassured about the black bear activity and gave us tips on how to avoid an encounter. This is a very clean, friendly and not overwhelmingly big campground settled in a really beautiful and scenic area. The only downside was that there is no cellphone reception unless you drive a little closer to the town that’s nearby but that’s also just something to expect with camping. We definitely will be visiting again!
