Adirondack/Sharp Bridge
Overview
Sharp Bridge Campground holds a unique place in history as the first campground established by the New York State Conservation Commission in 1920. Located within the vast Adirondack Forest Preserve, it offers a peaceful, traditional camping experience that favors nature over modern frills. For RVers traveling through North Hudson, this facility provides a serene escape shaded by mature trees and cooled by the gentle flow of the Schroon River. It is an ideal spot for those who appreciate the legacy of the Adirondacks and prefer a quiet, wooded atmosphere.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the town of North Hudson, NY, Sharp Bridge is surrounded by the rugged beauty of the High Peaks region. The campground is nestled between Route 9 and the Schroon River, providing easy access while maintaining a sense of seclusion. The landscape is dominated by a mix of pine and hardwood forests, creating a lush canopy that keeps sites private and cool. Travelers will find themselves perfectly positioned to explore the Hoffman Notch Wilderness and the diverse terrain of the eastern Adirondacks.
Amenities & Park Features
As a historic state-run facility, the amenities at Sharp Bridge are rustic and cater to self-contained travelers. There are 40 campsites, and while they do not offer electric or water hookups, the sites are spacious enough for smaller RVs and trailers. On-site facilities include:
- Vault toilets and shared water spigots
- A trailer dump station for guest use
- Individual picnic tables and fire rings
Each site is designed to immerse guests in the forest environment, encouraging traditional evenings spent around a campfire under a dark, starry sky.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities just minutes from the campground. The Schroon River is a major draw for those who enjoy fishing for trout or simply wading in the clear water. A short drive leads to the trailhead for Courtney Pond or the more challenging hikes within the High Peaks Wilderness. For a bit of local history and family fun, the nearby Frontier Town Gateway offers a glimpse into the area's past while providing additional dining and supply options for campers.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is best suited for boondockers and minimalist RVers who value solitude and a connection to the environment. It is not a resort-style destination; instead, it appeals to those with smaller rigs or camper vans who do not require laundry facilities or Wi-Fi. It is an excellent choice for hiking enthusiasts and anglers looking for a basecamp that feels like a true wilderness retreat. If your goal is to unplug and enjoy the historic character of the Adirondack Park, Sharp Bridge is a perfect match.

Restroom and showers are clean. The attendant was awesome (and so was his big fluffy dog) Great location close to a number of trailheads and nice sizable camping sites. My Basecamp camp ground for a number of trips and always a good experience.

Been camping here for 11 years. Past few years DEC has passed rukes that make this place not fun anymore. I'm done with NYS campgrounds for a while.

Spent a few nights here with the family. The campsite is incredibly clean and well-maintained. Easy access to water and bathrooms from most campsites. Very kind staff. Conveniently located near a wide range of hiking trails, high peaks, a brewery, stores, etc. Almost everything you need is within half an hour. Will definitely go back!

Amazing campground super clean sites & bathrooms. Staff is friendly and checks in on you every night! Each campsite allows 2 cars and 6 people max. Campground allows pets. Firewood is available for $14 per bundle. Camping is only $20 per night, you simply can't beat it!

Amazing customer service and very clean campgrounds. In town for the IRONMAN Lake Placid event and very accommodating. It's roughly 40 minutes away but it's a straight shot leaving the campground when you turn right. Also huge shout out to Linda for helping me out!! Peaceful vibes!!
