Algonquin/Mew Lake

Be prepared to hear small explosions all night as the snow in the tree above melts and comes crashing down. The ice rink is a joke, tiny and bumpy-don't believe the hype. On the plus side- saw a wolf cross road next to the comfort station at 3:30AM, lots of tracks going around and down to the lake, as well. Yurt is toasty warm.

Spent 3 nights in a yurt with my 1 year old, wife and dog during the snowy winter months. Had a great time, the structure was warm enough, plenty of electrical outlets despite what was read in the description and other reviews. There are snow shovels, broom and dust pan, show mat for drying all at the yurt.

Great campground, right on the lake. Not many comfort stations within walking distance but plenty of our houses with vault/compost toilets. Campsites were huge with lots of parking options.

Camped at mew lake 5 or 6 times, great area of algonquin. Few people with music to loud at night but to be expected as its a public park. Washrooms at the comfort station were a bit rough and the maintenance like door hinges, locks on the stalls etc need to be better looked after.

Beautiful little park but unfortunately so close to the highway we could hear traffic the entire trip. The section we were in also had no water and when I asked a park worker they said it was blocked and hadn’t been fixed with no indication of when it would be. Sounds like it had been not working for awhile. The beauty of Algonquin and access to hiking is why we booked it so all of the negatives were easily outweighed by the hiking and nature when we left the campground to enjoy it. If we were there to simply stay on our site and enjoy “nature” that way we would have been more disappointed as our site was about 40ft from the road. We knew it when we booked it but based on the map didn’t realize it was THAT close. Our site was quite large and plenty of space but a few closer to the lake were MUCH smaller so if you need space, don’t book a lakeside side, book on the opposite side of the road.

Extremely crowded campground with constant noise from the highway, day and night, which btw will wake you up and not the morning sounds of the forest. The campsites are so close together that you can see and hear people at the neighboring sites all the time, no privacy or quiet whatsoever. I couldn’t sleep because people at the surrounding sites were snoring, sneezing, and blowing their noses. That’s how close everything is! The site itself is very dusty; there’s no real soil underfoot, just about half an inch of dust, probably from all the foot traffic. The outhouses are another story altogether; I’m sure there must be a way to keep the smell down a bit. The only thing I liked about this place is that there are great trails nearby and I saw some wild turkey and a family of bluejays came to our campsite and sat pretty close which was very cool. Our family definitely won’t be camping there again.

We have been camping for about 13 years, visiting different Ontario Parks each year. We knew Algonquin was the oldest Ontario Park but never understood why we did not go sooner. Mew Lake was FANTASTIC! You can't go wrong booking in Algonquin. The trails were beautiful, the park was quiet and other campers were some of the most friendliest. The camp store at Lake of Two Rivers was the best camp store ever!! And only 5 minutes away. Camp sites are big and well maintained. My only concern was the parks staff all drove fast! I've never seen this in any of the 24 other parks we have camped in. The dust they made driving by was crazy! We stayed on site #52 and #60 (camping with our adult children and 3 dogs).

This place has so much to offer! We were there for just 2 nights which later seemed not enough! By luck we saw moose two days in a row!!🫎We did Canoeing in Mew Lake. The lake is quiet and beautiful. For the first time I took my child by myself for canoeing which I was terrified to think before. Campgrounds are good. Staff is nice. Vault toilets are messy. Main toilet and shower are clean and good

big camp sites for winter camping or summer. Not best privacy in the electric sites section and kinda close to the hwy. Good trails for hiking.

Fantastic! The yurts could use some sprucing up but that doesn't take away from the beauty and spiritual feeling of Algonquin. The skating rink and the groomed hiking trail was amazing.

Mew lake was the first campground we stayed at Algonquin Park and we are totally hooked. The sites are wonderful and well maintained. The yurts are good. Comfort stations maintained pretty well. The busy season can get a little crowded due to its accessibility.

Terrific winter camping spot in Algonquin. Maintained ice rink with a bonfire, skating on the lake (at your own risk), amazing hiking all around for different levels eagerness for adventure.

It has been a while since I have been to Mew Lake for camping. Other campgrounds in Algonquin, yes. Mew Lake has great sites. Right across from the lake ( thanks to the people who booked the sites and never showed, would have loved to have one on the water, but first world problems...) Lovely! Even though water was off for a day, great stay! I would like to go back in the warmer months! I'll be back....
