Super excited to come check this place out until the moment we arrived and found zero parking on the entire property. Had to park down the street and walk back about 10 minutes to check in. Once getting there and checking in the receptionist was beyond rude to us to the point we considered driving 3 hours back home. Ended up staying to float the river which was awesome by the way. The campsites are extremely tight and stacked on top of each other so there is zero privacy. The only positive about this location and the 3 star rating is it's right on top of the river so if you decide to float down the river the walk back to the sites is only about 20 minutes. I would 100% suggest wearing a life jacket here even if you think you're a great swimmer. It gets super sketchy in some parts.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing from start to finish.

I booked a site for my small teardrop trailer after another campground fell through. During the reservation, I was moved from Site 71 to Site 63 because it had been booked by someone else while we were talking I was told it has “sporadic power.” I specifically asked what that meant, and was told it would only be an issue for larger RVs and that my small trailer should be fine.

After driving 11.5 hours, I arrived only to find the gate wouldn’t open. I wasn’t told I had to check in first, and instead of helping me get through the gate, I was told to somehow turn my truck and trailer around while cars were lined up behind me.

After finally getting checked in and setting up, I discovered Site 63 had no power at all. Maintenance quickly confirmed the pedestal had no power and said he’d find another site for me. After waiting, I was told there were no sites available, even though I had walked past several empty ones. I asked for a refund so I could find another campground with electricity since it was over 100 degrees outside, but was told they “don’t really have a refund policy.”

When I finally spoke with management, I was repeatedly told I knew about the “sporadic power” before arriving. There is a huge difference between sporadic power and no power whatsoever. The proposed solution was to “hope PG&E sends more power” or run my generator, despite the campground’s own quiet-hour rules and nearby tent campers.

The young woman in the office and the maintenance employee were kind and tried to help. Unfortunately, management was dismissive, unwilling to offer any meaningful solution, and seemed more interested in defending the situation than making it right.

If you’re paying full price for an RV site with electrical hookups, you should expect working electricity. If a site doesn’t have reliable power, that should be clearly disclosed before booking or the site shouldn’t be rented. Beautiful location, but customer service and management left a lot to be desired

An awesome place for camping and glamping. It’s a fairly large site that is well maintained and a mixture of tent sites and cabin sites. It’s fairly close to the river where the water flows pretty strong. They said it’s a level 3 which has a good amount of rapids.

The camping ground also provides river rafting services and rentals. I didn’t check the price since we booked at a different provider that has a guide as well.

The beach area where they launch is a bit too rapid for our kids to play since it gets deep about 5 feet out.

The campsites are fairly spacious and have all the amenities of any campgrounds in the area. Their restrooms are exceptionally clean and numerous. Some of the sites might be a bit of a walk.

They have a small pond near the parking that the kids had a blast fishing. It’s catching and release so the fish gets really smart. Still a few bites that gave the kids a great time. Fishing in the river is kind of bad since the water runs fast and lots of weed and cotton balls in the water due to the upstream dam release which makes the water dirty.

Overall a great site and with a bit of everything for everyone.

5-star rating (would have been 4.5 if possible, but not worth dropping down to a 4)

PROS: This campground is AMAZING! I highly recommend camping here. It is great for families, couples, or anyone who wants a peaceful, beautiful campsite. It has two river access points. The staff is very friendly. The campground itself is very clean, and the bathrooms/showers are maintained excellently. It is a GREAT value for the cost. The weather in early June was very pleasant, just a little hot. There are plenty of garbage cans around that are regularly emptied to keep the campground clean and safe. There was one group of teenage campers that was very loud at times, but everyone respected the curfew hours quite well. We are definitely coming back!

CONS: The campground road is not well-maintained. There are many potholes and large holes along the side of the road. If you have a larger truck, it may be difficult to back into your campsite; we had to pull in. It is not the worst issue, but it is noticeable. There is NOT a lot of fishing opportunities, if this matters to you.

Folks for the love of all thats good book your rafting trips and camping with the American White water Expeditions! Hands down the best rafting experience my friends and family have had EVER! Complementary night of camping the night prior to your booked rafting trip and optional breakfast buffet 😋. What more could u want?! The camp resort is absolutely freaking awesome! Showers, bathrooms and changing rooms on location, a small catch and release fishing pond on site and easy access to the river. I will be booking here again at least once or 2x a year with friends. Ps we travel from LA just for this place!

Stayed here for 3 nights. I went to the front desk on 4 separate occasions during normal business hours and the front desk was never open. I had a time sensitive question and there was nobody around to talk to. Tried calling the front desk and they didn't answer the phone either. On the last day, we couldn't find the dump station and while walking around the front to find someone to help, there were other guests trying to find someone to talk to and they couldn't find an employee either.

They also don't have WiFi or laundry machines which is a real bummer. This place basically stays in business because of their location because it's definitely not their customer service or amenities. The bathrooms are decent but the shower pressure is super low which is a real bummer for someone with thick textured hair.

A few weeks ago we spent a couple of nights in one of the cabins.  It had a wonderful view of the American River, a deck to hang out on with a gas grill included, and a full kitchen.  We drove through the campground and it looked well kept.  We never did see a staff member for the entire time we were there however.  Even for check in and check out, the main office was closed.

Only experienced the camp sites.  Very well maintained, flat camping areas with nearby parking and easy access to clean water and well maintained bathrooms.  Really nice being near the river...great natural white noise for excellent sleep.  Looking forward to the next opportunity to camp here and maybe check out the cabins.  Rooms rating would be n/a at this point because I only experienced tent camping.

My group of 7 adults had to make a last minute shift in plans for our recent camping trip. American River Resort turned out to be a great option for us. The Platform Tents along the River were clean and comfortable, and we were able to set up our cooking, dining and relaxing areas easily. The sound of the River was amazing white noise at night! Bathrooms and shower facilities were clean, but the 1/4 mile walk required planning! A quick drive to restaurants, nightlife and history.

This place has something of everyone.  Spots for tents, vans, RVs and cabins. Park was well maintained and staff were helpful and friendly. Bathrooms and showers were kept clean at all times. Lots to see and do around here and I look forward to a return visit soon.

I got a tent and my parents got a cabin. The tent wasn’t bad, it had 4 beds and my parents said the room was okay. The only thing was that it was really hot outside and the ac in the room didn’t work well. My favorite thing was the river, it was beautiful, I would definitely go again for just for that. One advice I would give for anyone who wants to come is: don’t forget sunscreen. I forgot to bring some 😬 and well I got really burnt.
Overall it was a great experience with an amazing scenery.

We had a wedding there for my best friends daughter.  It was beautiful, with the American River and mountains the backdrop.  There were 4 cabins rented out for the bridal party for several nights.  They all had ample space for families as well as a basic kitchen...stove, microwave, refrigerator, air conditioner, bathtub and shower.  In summer months there are also several great places to put up tents for outdoor camping.

The best place ever, it looks like you can't leave this place, I love it

The best rafting company out there. This was my second time using them and everything was just as awesome. The first time we had Michelle as our guide, she knows what she is doing and makes everything fun and exciting. We requested her this time around, but we got Christian instead. He was just as Awesome, fun, and hilarious Our group of 5 girls had the boat to ourselves which was great also. I HIGHLY recommend this company and ask for either Michelle or Christian, you wont regret it.

It was our first time with American river resort company and I would say they did their best to make the trip fun and comfortable for their guests. We took full day river rafting trip and our guide/coach Rich was amazing. He kept educating and entertaining thru-out the trip and did not let it become boring at any given time during the 6 hour expedition. Food during the lunch break was very well administered with adequate precautions for social distancing. I would definitely recommend this company and revisit them again. I also liked the pictures taken by their staff and option to purchase for all the picture at very nominal price.
