Arapaho-Roosevelt/Dutch George Flats
Overview
Dutch George Flats Campground provides a serene mountain getaway within the Roosevelt National Forest. Positioned along the banks of the Cache la Poudre River, this site offers a traditional camping experience for those looking to disconnect. Managed by the U.S. Forest Service, it retains a primitive charm that reflects the rugged beauty of Northern Colorado’s canyon country, offering a peaceful atmosphere away from more developed tourist hubs.
Location & Surroundings
Located about 25 miles west of Fort Collins, CO, the campground is nestled in the heart of the Poudre Canyon. The area is characterized by towering granite cliffs and dense forests of ponderosa pine and Douglas fir. The Cache la Poudre River, Colorado’s only designated Wild and Scenic River, flows directly adjacent to the camping area, providing a stunning natural backdrop and the constant, relaxing sound of rushing water.
Amenities & Park Features
This is a dry camping facility, meaning visitors should arrive prepared with their own water and power. The park features vault toilets and picnic tables at each site, along with established fire rings for evening gatherings. While there are no hookups or dump stations, the level gravel pads provide a stable foundation for small to mid-sized RVs seeking a backcountry camping experience with slightly more structure than a completely dispersed site.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation is the main event here, with world-class trout fishing right at your doorstep. The river also attracts kayakers and rafters during the spring runoff. Nearby, the Young Gulch Trail offers a scenic path for hikers and mountain bikers to explore the canyon’s interior. After a few days in the woods, the vibrant craft breweries and historic Old Town district of Fort Collins are easily accessible for a quick day trip.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is best suited for adventurous RVers who value privacy and direct access to the wilderness over modern luxuries. It is an excellent fit for those who have a dedicated solar setup or generator and enjoy a quiet environment without the hum of high-density resorts. If you are looking for a riverside retreat to practice your fly casting or simply enjoy the mountain air, this park provides the ideal rustic escape.

Just finished a stay of 6 nights in site 14. Very HOT in the sun, but overall good. The last night there was the hottest night though. Did my first Cold Plunge in the Poudre River. Took two tries to get up to my neck under the water. Had planned on taking the dive watch to see what the actual water temp was, but forgot it and didn't want to try it three times.

The campground was so beautiful and so clean! Me, my lady, and my pup had a great time. Freedom was super awesome and super friendly! We will definitely be camping here again!

This was for years our favorite campsite because of how beautiful and the river is close to our camp but this last time we went the camp spot was a mess there are tooo many flys the camp host is this mean woman who is noisy and harassed us every chance she got she rushed us out of our campsite the last day when we were contemplating staying another night and I got a panic attack because of the camp host and her husband I understand that there are people that abuse things and ruin it for others that don’t also I never ever write reviews but that favorite campsite we love turned into not favorite!!

Beautiful. But ... Be prepared for Sun, as some sites have minimal tree cover.

Great camping along the Poudre River Canyon. The spots are first come first serve, we are able to pull up early and snag an available site. There are dumpsters and bathrooms (clean and tidy) every few spots as well as a water spout. Firewood was available from the camp host site for $5. The views of the river and canyon are awesome, and there's a path that you can walk the length of the campgrounds along the water.
