Bamberton Provincial Park
Overview
Bamberton Provincial Park offers a tranquil retreat on the eastern coast of southern Vancouver Island. Nestled along the scenic Saanich Inlet, this park is known for its lush forest canopy and striking waterfront vistas. It serves as a peaceful gateway for those exploring the Cowichan Valley or making their way toward Victoria. The park provides a traditional outdoor experience where the sound of the wind through the Douglas fir trees and the rhythmic lapping of the tide create a deeply relaxing atmosphere for every visitor.
Location & Surroundings
Located in Cowichan Valley A, just off the Malahat Highway, the park is perched on a hillside that slopes down to the water. The surrounding geography is defined by steep, emerald-green ridges and the expansive blue waters of the inlet. Travelers will appreciate the strategic location, which feels remarkably secluded despite being a short drive from the Mill Bay ferry terminal. The views across the water toward the Saanich Peninsula and the distant Olympic Mountains are a primary draw for nature photographers and sightseers alike.
Amenities & Park Features
As a provincial park, the facilities here lean toward a rustic, self-contained style of camping. There are no electrical or water hookups available, making it a perfect spot for dry camping enthusiasts. The park features vehicle-accessible sites tucked under a dense forest canopy for maximum privacy. Visitors have access to pit toilets and hand-pumped water stations throughout the grounds. The standout feature is the large picnic area and the well-maintained trails leading directly to a long, sandy beach area that is surprisingly warm for the region.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure is never far away when staying at Bamberton. The famous Malahat SkyWalk is located just minutes away, offering an elevated walk through the forest and breathtaking 360-degree views from a spiral tower. For those who enjoy local flavors, the Cowichan Valley is home to numerous award-winning wineries and artisanal cideries. Popular activities include:
- Exploring the intertidal life along the sandy shoreline during low tide.
- Taking the Mill Bay ferry for a scenic shortcut toward the Victoria area.
- Hiking the shaded forest trails that wind through the park's diverse ecosystem.

Decent view and beach area but that can't really save this one in my opinion. The combination of the location and the no dogs rule on the beach from may to sept make this park a dud for any dog owners. There are just way to many other great parks/beaches that don't ban dogs completely and are better.

Tiny little park by the shore with plenty of parking or you can walk here from the camping ground. Cory wanted a shower (external cold water). There are plenty of picnic benches, bins, and a gorgeous sheltered view. We were there at the Labour Day weekend and it was quiet. A pretty little place to have a picnic lunch and gaze at the water.

A lovely quiet park for camping. The campsites are generously sized for tents, and other visitors had campervans (or travel trailers - a big one wouldn't fit onto all of the sites). Each site is surrounded by trees, making it a cooler location. The pit toilets were clean, and park staff were on the grounds regularly during the day. At night the staff were available for purchasing firewood from. Remember to book your stay before 2pm two days in advance of arrival, otherwise it's first come first served for any remaining sites.

Great park. The park attendant was a little bit rude. He insisted that I couldn't run my engine to charge my batteries during the allowed time due to my motorhome having a V8 engine. Insisted I only use half the time allotted. Even when I told him what the park rules stated he still argued his point.

Enjoyed the day walking along the beach and looked at some campsites for future use. Park looks well maintained and the sites look cozy for an overnight stay.
