Waterfowl Lakes Campground is a peaceful and scenic place to camp along the Icefields Parkway. Surrounded by towering mountains and close to beautiful turquoise lakes, the views here are absolutely stunning. The campground feels quiet and close to nature — perfect for relaxing, cooking outdoors, and enjoying the fresh mountain air. At night, the sky is incredibly clear, making it a great spot for stargazing. If you love simple camping experiences with breathtaking Rocky Mountain scenery, Waterfowl Lakes Campground is a wonderful place to stay.

The campground is huge and beautiful. We got the site #3 which is super close to the lake, we brought the kayak and we spent hours kayaking. We also did the hiking to the lake on top, I truly recommend. The only suggestion to improve is the wood, there was almost nothing on the two days we spent there.

Probably one of the most beautiful campgrounds in the Banff area from a natural and wilderness perspective. Services are very limited – no showers, only basic toilets – but there are plenty of spots to get drinking water. We arrived with our camper at around 10:30 am (August 21) and were worried we wouldn’t find a spot, but there were plenty of sites available and we managed to choose site #11 right by the lake. The campsite was well laid out, spacious, and offered good privacy. The view of the lake is absolutely breathtaking, and you can even take your canoe out on the water. Be prepared for cold nights and early mornings (around 5°C), and note that the campground stays shaded most of the time as it’s surrounded by trees. A truly stunning and peaceful place to camp.

I couldn’t easily find an online map of this campground so wanted to post a picture here from the main sign board at the entrance. What a hidden jewel of Banff National Park! Well worth the drive north for this FCFS spot. Arrived around 11am when people were packing up and had no problem getting a spot. Bathrooms were spotless, water at various spots all over the campground, and two sani dump stations are free. Highly recommend! I’ll definitely be back.

So much to say about this first come, first serve campground. Great location with lots of awesome day hikes around it. My husband and I were able to snag campsite six, which backs up to the lake. We could stay here for several days, just have to clean up in the lake, which is cold, but there are worse things. There is a little road noise on one side of the campground, but otherwise no complaints.

The campsites are first-come, first-served, with 100 well-maintained and fully-equipped spots. Many sites are right next to a small creek, which is super convenient. On the way to Chephren Lake, I spotted three piles of bear scat.
