Banker Park

Overview

Banker Park serves as a welcoming gateway for travelers exploring the unique Driftless Area of Wisconsin. Located in the village of Viola, this community park offers a relaxed setting right along the banks of the Kickapoo River. It is well-known locally for its peaceful atmosphere and its historical connection to the region's equestrian traditions. Travelers often choose this park for its simplicity and the opportunity to experience small-town Wisconsin charm while remaining close to some of the state's most beautiful natural wonders and community-oriented spaces.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated in a valley characterized by the rolling hills and limestone bluffs of southwestern Wisconsin. Because the Driftless Area was never glaciated, the terrain surrounding Viola is rugged and picturesque. The scenic riverbanks of the Kickapoo provide a calming backdrop for your stay, offering plenty of shade and a sense of seclusion despite being within the village limits. It is an ideal spot for those who want to wake up to the sounds of nature and moving water while remaining within walking distance of local shops.

Amenities & Park Features

Banker Park offers a range of functional amenities designed for comfortable RV stays. The campground features sites equipped with 30 and 50 amp electric hookups, ensuring you can power your rig with ease. While individual water hookups may vary, a shared water fill and a convenient on-site dump station are available for guest use. Beyond the campsites, the park includes a large shelter house, a modern playground for children, tennis courts, and a horse arena that famously hosts the historic Viola Horse Show every year.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors to this region. The Kickapoo River is famous for its winding path, making it a premier destination for kayaking and canoeing through the valley. Anglers will find excellent opportunities for trout fishing in the cold-water streams that feed into the river system. For those willing to drive a short distance, the Wildcat Mountain State Park and the Kickapoo Valley Reserve offer miles of hiking and horseback riding trails through breathtaking landscapes and ancient rock formations.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an excellent choice for river enthusiasts looking for easy access to the water for paddling or fishing. It also serves as a perfect home base for budget-conscious RVers who prefer a quiet, no-frills municipal setting over crowded commercial resorts. If you appreciate a community-focused environment and want to explore the hidden gems of the Driftless region, Banker Park provides a functional and scenic retreat that fits travelers looking for an authentic Wisconsin experience.

I arrived late in the afternoon early evening and had to go to City Hall, only a few blocks away, to fill out a camping permit and pay $20. The Campsites are right along the river and there are only a few with electricity. A girl next to me was camping in a tent but paid for electric and had some guy with a big camping rig pull in to her spot and set up camp while she was shopping. There absolutely no privacy as every site is very close together and nothing breaking the view between. But it was clean and quiet. There are bathrooms and showers about a block away. They were not very clean when I was there.

Nice little camping spot right off the road next to a river. Easy to get in and out for camping. I wished there was a shower facility. It said on the sign there was a bathhouse but it was just a bathroom with a drain in the floor. Since it’s close to the main road it was a little noisy, but for a quick stop off it was a great spot to camp.

Nice park, easy access from the road, borders a river that you can fish.

Seen three deer and a trophy 53 inch Northern pike, beautiful location and the local residents are as friendly as they come. Highly recommend for adventures and camping trips for families.
