Barren River Lake - COE/Baileys Point

Overview

Baileys Point Campground is a premier destination managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the expansive shores of Barren River Lake. As the largest campground on this 10,000-acre reservoir, it offers a peaceful retreat for those seeking a deep connection with nature. The park is characterized by its spacious campsites and a lush forest canopy, providing a classic Kentucky outdoor experience for RVers and tent campers alike. Its reputation for being a clean, well-managed facility makes it a perennial favorite for regional travelers and lake enthusiasts.

Location & Surroundings

Situated on a picturesque peninsula in Scottsville, KY, the park is nearly surrounded by the deep blue waters of Barren River Lake. The local geography consists of rolling limestone hills and dense hardwoods, offering plenty of shade during the warm summer months. This unique location provides easy access to the water from almost every loop in the campground, creating a sense of being fully immersed in a lakeside wilderness while remaining within a short drive of local conveniences in Scottsville.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features approximately 150 sites, most of which are equipped with water and electric hookups to accommodate a variety of RV sizes. Visitors have access to essential facilities including a dump station, laundry facilities, and clean bathhouses with hot showers. For recreation, the park offers a multi-lane boat ramp, sand volleyball courts, and multiple playgrounds for children. The sites are generally paved and leveled, featuring heavy-duty fire rings and picnic tables that encourage comfortable outdoor living under the trees.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water sports are the primary draw here, with excellent opportunities for fishing, tubing, and skiing on the open water. Just a short distance away by boat or car, the Barren River Lake State Resort Park offers an 18-hole golf course and seasonal dining options. For those willing to explore further, the world-famous Mammoth Cave National Park is roughly 40 minutes away, providing incredible underground tours. Additionally, nearby Bowling Green features the National Corvette Museum and a variety of urban amenities.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is an ideal fit for boating enthusiasts and families who enjoy traditional lakeside activities like swimming and fishing. It appeals to travelers looking for a rustic, natural environment that offers more privacy than a typical commercial park. Because of its proximity to major Kentucky landmarks, it serves as an excellent base camp for national park explorers who prefer staying in a forested, government-managed setting rather than a standard roadside RV park.

Amazing lake trip on the water can't wait for our next trip down!! Ok one important important Tip so the camp store has been closed for at least 2 years now. You cannot buy wood or ice when checking in to Bailey's point campground! There wood self-pay and there is a giant ice machine down the road also that you can bag your own ice and self pay again There is no camp store!

Such a beautiful and quiet place to be. Friendly camp hosts and convenient accommodations such as bathrooms, showers, and wash tubs for laundry.

We booked this campground in July and had a great experience overall. However, avoid booking the water-view sites in B loop, as they are currently closed, lack tree shade, and are fully exposed to the sun all day. The best sites we found were A24 in A loop; B17, B19, B21, and B22 in B loop; and C1 to C6 in C loop, which offer both shade and nice water views. The showers are clean, though the water pressure is low. The campground itself is well-maintained, and Barren River Lake is especially beautiful in the evening. It’s a great spot for water activities, relaxing, and enjoying a peaceful vacation.

We’ve stayed at Baileys Point for years now. It’s always been one of our favorite places to stay. However, it had gone way down. The grass isn’t being kept, so much overgrowth everywhere! It’s not normal to check yourself in and out. No one is ever at the gate anymore (due to volunteer hours being cut) This weekend we never saw a patrol, security or any host riding around. It makes us sad to see one of the top rated campgrounds go down so quickly. Can we not do better?

We were on site A19. The campground was not close, just right. We parked along the lake with trees for privacy. You can hear the boats drive but and get glimpses but the lot is still private. Shower/bathroom house was clean. Great campground!
