Benbow KOA Holiday

Nice place to pull in and rest. We’re headed to glass beach. Nice park with a pull through long enough for our RV and Toad.

Lovely spot. People there were very friendly and helpful. Just very surprised by how gross the bathrooms were. At least the woman's bathroom in the main building. Toilets had black mold. Showers were just gross. Handicapped shower did not even have a hook for the hand held shower. The stall itself was stained and dirty beyond any cleaner's ability to fix. I travel fulltime, and in 3 years this bathroom is in the bottom 5. So surprising for a KOA that I have come to depend on for constantly clean facilities.

The cabins are much nicer than I expected. Fully furnished. The cabin says it sleeps 5-6, which 5 can work if you share a bed. There was a pull out bed in the sofa, but 6 persons is impossible unless someone's sleeping on the ground. Although there were empty cabins, they wouldn't let us rent another one... There was a tournament this weekend so maybe they assumed they'd be busier? WiFi isn't great, even though they have a mesh network and most cabins have an access point. Looks like they are trying but honestly not even worth trying to connect. Great swimming hole near the cabins! Either way, I'd definitely stay here again!

Very nice KOA. Tons of cap sites and cabins. Right on the Eel river and very close to multiple state parks. There is a nice little arcade, shop and pool on site (closed off season). Bathrooms are very clean and well maintained, unfortunately no hot water in the off season. Camp sites have full hook ups, fire pits and tables. Good place to stay when in the area.

We were lucky we were there in the November / December season so lots of room for us. We loved the spacious grounds, close proximity to Redwoods and the cute town of Garberville. We ate at the Historic Inn and loved the Christmas decor and beauty of the hotel.

Beautiful campground! Stayed 3 nights in RV spot. Avenue of the Giants road is just 20 or so miles north, so spent a day doing that. Played 9 holes of golf here one day and that was fun! Lovely and friendly staff!

We really wanted to like our stay at KOA Benbow, especially with such friendly staff who were genuinely helpful, but the experience was a letdown. The biggest issue was the pervasive mud. It had clearly been wet, but the lack of ground cover meant we had to trudge through mud just to get to our RV site. The sites themselves were also problematic. They were incredibly narrow, making maneuvering difficult, and many of the trees were simply too close to allow for easy parking or extending awnings. The friendly service couldn't quite redeem the feeling of being in a cramped and muddy parking lot rather than a comfortable campground. It felt like they are due for some serious maintenance and better site planning. Adding to the issues with muddy, narrow sites and tree proximity, we had to contend with a maintenance person using a gas leaf blower that was leaking fumes for hours, absolutely intolerable. This experience compounds the feeling of this KOA needing serious maintenance and better management of site planning and operations

Granted this park was around in the 70s, but it's starting to show. My parents used to stay here. I've driven by it hundreds of times in the 80s and 90s and early 2000s. It always appeared so green and landscaped, and there were always many RVs parked in the spaces. However, when I stayed here on the 21st of July 25, it was terrible. They no longer water the landscaping, however, the grass was in such great shape at one time that it is still there. It's dry and dead, sticks to your shoes and the dog. Then of course it gets tracked into your RV. There is some road noise at night, but the highway is right there..so that's a given. Did not utilize the showers, however, they did appear clean. Water pressure was low, which may have contributed to the death of the landscaping. Garbage was piled high in all the containers. Most were emptied on Monday morning. Several full-timers. Many park models. There is a walkway that runs under the highway to get to the Benbow Lodge. Obviously, no water spared on this side. Gorgeous landscaping, a nice bar, and restaurant. Also al fresco dining is dependent on the weather of course.

Fantastic little cabin with full amenities. Kitchen, bedroom, bathroom. Hideaway bed in the living room couch. Some dishes provided, dishwasher and apartment sized fridge. Plenty of people here, RV, tent and cabin sites. Great place to make Basecamp if planning for the avenue of the giants. Reasonable rates, and golf cart rentals are available. Staff was friendly, and check-in was an absolute breeze.

The KOA campground staff were pleasant and informative people. The RV sites were paved & level and had working electric, water & sewer. The restrooms & showers were clean and the swimming pool is big. However, this campground is showing signs of age & neglect. There is no green grass on the golf course or around the RV sites. Dry dead grass is what you will find. It is neither visually appealing nor scenic. Most of the cabins were unoccupied, and were also unavailable for rent as the "cleaning staff" were reportedly on vacation. No temp cleaning help?...apparently not. Too bad...our friends were willing to pay whatever the cost was for a Mon thru Fri stay. Likely an amount that would have far exceeded the cost of hiring a temp cleaning person. The campground is located a short distance off Highway 101. The traffic noise was, at times, quite loud. This isn't the worst KOA I have ever seen, but it is far from the best. It is an adequate campground for a short stay.

Great place to stay after decompressing from camping. We were very pleased to have a nice pool, hot tub, and laundry. We stayed during 4th of July week and many of the other RVs were very festive. The cabin was great, but the floor was a bit dirty and we would have preferred a stiffer mattress.

We booked tonight saw that they had great amenities. Got there no one was available at the office it was 5:00 this is in the middle of May. Could not access the pool could not access the hot tub. All you could have was the laundromat. Bathrooms are old for the campers or RVs. The lights are on timers and you go dark while you're standing in a shower. Price we had to pay for this place was totally not worth it. We had to walk a quarter mile to get to the bathroom from our back in space. Grounds are for golfers only.

Friendly staff upon check in. Nice area just down the freeway from Avenue of Giants. Little access path to river that runs behind the grounds. Full hook ups. Basketball court was nice(balls were all deflated though) Lil playground for younger kids. The showers and bathrooms were super nice, water pressure was great and it got hot.

Comfortable cabins with A/C, fans, kitchen facilities and WiFi. Good base for exploring the giant redwoods.

Such a great experience! Great campsites, clean bathrooms and showers, a well stocked store, and lots of amenities. Rerouting our trip home so we can stay here again.
