We have been staying at the Sunriver/Bend location for nearly two years, and until recently, my experience here has been very positive. Unfortunately, I had a disturbing incident that occurred while I was walking my dog, which has left me feeling unsafe.
While walking my golden retriever away from other residents, as I do almost daily, a woman approached me from behind and commented that I had a “pretty dog.” I thanked her and continued walking. She then moved very close behind me and accused me of leaving dog waste behind. I calmly explained that I always pick up after my dog on our return walk(bagged poop).
At the time, my dog was not leashed; however, she is well-trained and friendly. I also leash her immediately whenever I see other people nearby. Despite my explanation, the woman continued to follow me closely. I attempted to disengage and walk away, but she persisted. When I asked her name, she refused to provide it. I then asked if she worked at the park, and she stated that she did.
I noticed she was recording me without my consent, which immediately made me uncomfortable. I repeatedly asked her—at least four or five times—to stop following me and give me space. She continued to follow me, telling me I was wrong, smiling in a way that felt unsettling and threatening. At one point, I genuinely feared she might become physically aggressive, and I had to firmly tell her to back away. I also started to record, In fear she would attrack me.
She contacted someone named Cathy from the office and stated that I was being aggressive, which was not the case. I was actively trying to remove myself from the situation. Eventually, I saw a park vehicle associated with the office, waved it down, and just about ran toward it out of fear. I was extremely relieved when Jessica arrived. She was professional, calm, and helpful, and she took my information while I explained what had happened.
Later that day, I went into the office and spoke with Cathy, who I understand is the manager. She told me that it is acceptable for my dog to be off-leash as long as no one is around and it is not during the busy season. I reiterated that I leash my dog as soon as I see anyone and that I always pick up after her.
Cathy mentioned that the woman involved may be dealing with personal trauma and that she had been involved in a previous altercation with another paying guest. While I empathize with anyone experiencing personal difficulties, this does not excuse following, harassing, or recording other guests. The explanation provided felt dismissive of the seriousness of the incident, and I was especially concerned to learn that this individual had been given Cathy’s personal phone number.
This experience caused me significant distress. I had difficulty sleeping that night and feared that this individual might attempt to confront or harm me or my dog. We have only one week left of our prepaid stay for the month, yet remaining here has been emotionally challenging since the incident.
I am writing in the hope that Thousand Trails takes the safety of its seasonal guests and patrons seriously. I sincerely hope that moving forward, appropriate steps are taken to ensure that guests are protected from harassment and feel safe on the property.
I also visited the Sunriver Police Department, who referred me to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. I plan to contact them to file a formal report. Just be aware of your surroundings. Especially if you have a dog. Some people really don't like dogs or anyone.

Putting your RV in a site in the forest is absolutely beautiful. We had the best time and also got some snow. Many sites were empty due to time of year, so it almost felt like we had a remote piece of forest just for us.
The showers would absolutely benefit from some easy to install wire baskets to hold shampoo, bodywash etc.
There is a veeeery strong smell of iron/ copper to the water which didn't bother us but might be an issue for others.
The only dissapointment was the fact we couldn't use the hot tub. It is outdoor and with views that would be beautiful,  especially with the snow.
But the entire pool area looked poorly maintained, the pools and the hot tub looked like they'd be unusable any time of the year and made an abandoned impression.
Will be back, hopefully by then the hot tub will be maintained and open!!

This is quickly becoming my favorite Thousand Trails location. The staff is kind and helpful, and the new manager clearly cares about the property and the guest experience. She offered great tips on local activities and genuinely made the stay feel welcome.

The grounds are beautiful, clean, and spacious — great for morning walks. Even with a number of annual sites, the park is nothing like many California TT parks, where the annual sections can feel neglected or overcrowded. This park is well-kept, quiet, orderly, and does not have that “camped out” atmosphere I’ve seen elsewhere in California. Guests here are respectful, quiet, and keep their sites tidy.

There are no sewer hookups, but that seems to be the norm for many TT locations. A portable tank works fine, and there are multiple dump stations throughout the park, which is a huge improvement over what I’ve experienced at several California parks.

The location is ideal: close enough to Bend for errands and services, but far enough to feel peaceful and removed from the city. I’m really enjoying this park and will definitely be returning.

This campground is pretty spot on. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The lodge is huge and beautiful. The power and water are solid. However, there is no sewer at any sites. There are 2 dump stations, one of which is not very navigable with big rigs and the other doesn't have water. The bath houses all need renovation. They're old and grimy. The water is very high in iron and smells like dirt.

We have traveled all over for camping and this is the absolute worse place we have stayed. All the trash was overflowing. The bathrooms were nasty and not usable. One of the pools was dark brown. The rec room was nasty and dirty. Everything about this place was outdated and nasty. I had considered purchasing the membership but not a chance!! I can't believe I paid so much for this place,never happening again. I would rate it less than one star of I could!!!

This place isn't what it use to be. I was here several years ago and it was much nicer. The store was open and there were activities to do with the family. Now that isn't the case. It's horribly dusty and pretty unkempt with sulfuric smelling water. The site tables and benches are in disrepair. The thing that gets me the most though is the lack of bathroom cleaning. The staff is signing off on the cleaning, but there is nothing being done. The same rotting excrement has been in the toilet for nearly a week now unflushable. Used q-tips on the floor for days. And now underwear in the bathroom. It never smells of cleaner and the other toilets are dirty. It's plain gross. Take heed of the bad reviews. The 5 star ones seem fake at this point. And yes, I could clean some of these things up, but as a guest, that isn't my job.

We paid $100. Per night we weren’t members, for water and electric. Sites were large and looked like a forest service campground. It was quiet!  Very dusty. Some picnic tables couldn’t even be sat upon because they were bowed. The pool area was overgrown with weeds and the pool itself was chipping and pealing. There were two pools and one was very large and the other regular size.  The bathroom at the pool area was very clean and seemed to have been in much better condition than the ones in the campground. The dump station was the worst we had ever seen with poop on the ground.  The brochure said if we went to a presentation regarding membership we could get a discount on our stay.  We went to the office and nobody was there and that was at 11:15 am during business hours per their sign. We went because family was staying there and was interested in Thousand trails as we will be traveling a lot next year. After this experience we decided no we would go with an organization that we had much better experience with.

The campground looks nothing like the pictures. Those must be from many years ago when they first opened. The pools are nice and clean and the sites are wide and semi level. My biggest issue was that it looks totally run down. The country store is closed, which is one of my kids favorite part about the parks so they were super disappointed. From other reviews I gather it's been closed for a while. They should update their web page to only list amenities that are actually present. They have no activities planned and the trashes were so over filled you couldn't even enjoy an stroll because the whole camp smells like hot garbage. We usually like the rustic feel of the TT campground. This didn't feel rustic it felt as abandoned as their old ghost town.

I enjoyed staying here! The staff was all friendly and the sites were spacious and far enough apart from your neighbors to not feel clustered which I love. Sure, there isn’t a sewer hookup but honestly the sites made up for that and they have on site dump stations that were conveniently located.

I also love that they have a float company on site where you can book a day on the river and I strongly recommend doing that if you stay in the summer months! I will absolutely be back!

We stayed at this campground for four nights and paid $0 per night as Thousand Trails members. We stayed in site K4. The campsites are spacious and the campground has a lot of trees. There are two warm pools. Bert checked us in and was super friendly. This campground does not have sewer hookups so we took showers in the campground bathrooms. One shower stall in the bathroom closest to us was broken. I notified the staff, who indicated they were already aware of the problem, but it was not fixed while we were there. I had to wait in line for the shower. When your campground doesn’t have sewer hookups and your guests need to rely on your facilities, you need to be more responsive to maintenance issues. Verizon coverage was intermittent depending on where you were in the campground. (Jun 2025) Happy Vegan Campers
