Bennett Spring

Overview

Bennett Spring State Park stands as one of Missouri's most cherished outdoor destinations, known primarily for its massive natural spring that pumps out over 100 million gallons of clear water every day. This historic park offers a tranquil escape into the heart of the Ozarks, where the focus remains on conservation and seasonal recreation. It provides a unique blend of historical significance and modern convenience, making it a staple for travelers seeking a deep connection with nature without sacrificing essential comforts during their stay.

Location & Surroundings

Located just twelve miles northwest of Lebanon, Missouri, the park is situated within a lush valley carved by the winding Niangua River. The surrounding landscape is characterized by rolling hills, dense hardwood forests, and dramatic limestone bluffs that define the region. This geographic position makes the park a cool oasis during the humid summer months. The drive into the park is particularly scenic, transitioning from open Missouri farmland into a sheltered, forested environment that feels secluded and peaceful.

Amenities & Park Features

The park accommodates RVers across five distinct campgrounds, offering a range of options from basic sites to full hookups including water and sewer. Guests have access to the following features:

  • Modern shower houses and laundry facilities
  • A historic dining lodge and park store for supplies
  • A dedicated nature center and 50-amp electricity at select sites

These amenities provide the necessary foundations for both short weekend trips and extended stays in the Missouri wilderness.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is undoubtedly the world-class trout fishing, which is organized into specific zones to accommodate different angling styles, from fly-fishing to plastic lures. Hikers can explore over 12 miles of trails, including the popular Natural Tunnel Trail, which leads to a massive seven-story geological formation. For those wanting to explore the local culture, Lebanon offers a glimpse into Route 66 history with specialized museums, while the nearby Niangua River is perfect for seasonal float trips and canoeing adventures.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for dedicated anglers and active families who enjoy traditional outdoor activities like hiking, wading, and birdwatching. While it offers modern amenities for big rigs, the vibe is decidedly rustic and focused on the natural environment, making it a perfect fit for RVers who prefer state park settings over commercial resorts. It is a fantastic choice for those looking to experience the authentic Ozark wilderness while having reliable access to well-maintained facilities.

Beautiful park with plenty to do for the non-fishing crowd. There are several trails to explore along with walking along the water. There is also a gift shop, restaurant, several play areas, some pinic tables with grills, and a nice nature center. Another option is to spend a night (or several) on one of the cozy cabins near the spring.

Very nice place to visit, camp, and fish. The store is very cool. The dining lodge is nice, but I highly advise against ordering the roast beef, it is very dry, and very hard to chew it, they obviously know nothing about cooking roast beef. But the park is very nice and enjoyable. I love Bennett Springs.

I love Bennett Springs but it sees lots of traffic and the benefits thereof. Lots of trash at times. I like going when there are less people and to hike surrounding trails and fishing the off beat places…

I've been going to Bennett since I was about 10, and I'm now 70. Our family has had 5 generations going to Bennett. We try to make it there at least 3 times each year. It's a great place to fish camp, ride bikes and enjoy family get togethers.

Bennett Springs state park is beautiful with several campground options and cabins, the fly fishing for trout is great. Restaurant is nice, shower houses and bathrooms are well kept as are the campgrounds. Dog friendly too.
