Blue Lake

Overview

Blue Lake Provincial Park is a standout destination in Northwestern Ontario, celebrated primarily for its exceptionally clear waters and expansive sandy beaches. Situated near the charming community of Vermilion Bay, this park offers a serene escape within the heart of the lush boreal forest. Unlike many rugged northern stopovers, Blue Lake feels like a hidden oasis where the water clarity is so high it rivals tropical shores, making it a top-tier choice for Trans-Canada Highway travelers.

Location & Surroundings

Positioned just north of the community of Vermilion Bay, the park is nestled within a landscape defined by Precambrian Shield rock and dense evergreen woodlands. The surrounding area is a vital part of Ontario’s Sunset Country, a region famous for its interconnected waterways and wild beauty. The park itself is built around the shores of Blue Lake, providing a tranquil environment where the calls of loons and the scent of pine dominate the sensory experience.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides several campgrounds with spacious electrical sites designed to accommodate various RV rigs. Campers benefit from a variety of park features:

  • The modern comfort stations include flush toilets and hot showers for visitor convenience.
  • A sandy swimming beach provides a safe and beautiful designated area for all ages.
  • A boat launch is available alongside rentals for those wishing to explore the water.

Additionally, a park store offers basic supplies and firewood, ensuring a comfortable stay without needing to leave the woods.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Just outside the park, travelers can explore the unique local shops of Vermilion Bay or visit the famous Egli’s Sheep Farm for high-quality wool products. The area is a haven for hikers, with trails like the Goblin Lake Trail offering a glimpse into the diverse local ecosystems. Anglers will find themselves in paradise, as the region is renowned for world-class fishing for species like smallmouth bass and lake trout in the many surrounding lakes.

This park is perfectly suited for families and outdoor enthusiasts who value pristine natural environments and water-based activities. We love this campground, the sites are all in the woods, very big, some more open, some more private. It’s located among tall spruce and pine trees, nice trails to hike, not too many though. And a beautiful Blue lake with a nice beach and swimming area.

Stayed for just a day and a night, the beach is very convenient and good for small children. The office and maintenance staffs are kind and hard working to keep the place nice and clean. There is a change room close to the beach but looks like a run down house. If it gets renovated that would be great and convenience for families.

Beautiful lake. The water is clean and clear, warm, but not to warm campsites are large and most come with two picnic tables. The beach is probably about 800 m long and thick sand.
