Overview

Located at Milepost 297 on the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, the Julian Price Memorial Park Campground serves as one of the most popular rustic retreats in the High Country of North Carolina. This destination offers a quintessential mountain experience, where the sounds of rustling leaves and nearby water replace the constant hum of city life. It is a place where travelers can truly immerse themselves in the Blue Ridge Mountains while staying just a short drive from the charming amenities and local shops of Blowing Rock. This expansive park offers a rare opportunity to camp in one of the most photographed areas of the parkway.

Location & Surroundings

This campground is situated directly adjacent to the stunning Price Lake, providing a serene backdrop for every stay. The surrounding landscape is characterized by dense hardwood forests and thick rhododendron thickets that create a natural sense of privacy and seclusion. Being near Blowing Rock, NC, the park benefits from high-altitude breezes and lush greenery, making it a perfect cool-weather escape during the humid summer months. The parkway itself acts as a gateway, offering winding roads with spectacular overlooks just minutes from your campsite.

Amenities & Park Features

As a traditional National Park Service site, this campground focuses on a natural experience. While there are no hookups available, the park provides well-maintained paved sites, picnic tables, and fire rings for traditional campouts. Visitors have access to potable water and modern comfort stations with flush toilets located throughout the loops. A dump station is located nearby for convenience, ensuring that self-contained RVers have the basic necessities required for a multi-day stay in the woods without needing to leave the park grounds.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find endless entertainment here, starting with kayaking and fishing on the calm waters of Price Lake. The area is a hiker’s paradise, featuring the challenging Boone Fork Trail and the scenic Tanawha Trail that skirts the base of Grandfather Mountain. For a change of pace, the historic Moses H. Cone Memorial Park is just minutes away, offering miles of wide carriage trails and a glimpse into the region’s rich cultural history through the Flat Top Manor.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature-focused RVers who prefer a quiet, wooded atmosphere over the amenities of a luxury resort. I really enjoyed the walk, although it was quite long, about 5 miles. You have to cross streams all the time. I especially liked the waterfall with its huge rocks, which require some effort to climb.

This is one of our favorite places to go ever since my childhood and now taking our grandchildren. Picnic area is open and accessible and has been reasonably maintained. There is still damaged from Helene that has not been corrected and the bathrooms are not working. They do have porta johns that are clean but it is very surprising they have not made the repairs needed. The park service should definitely invest in making these repairs as soon as possible

Wonderful park with quaint picnic spots by the creek. Rented kayaks and enjoyed the two-hour trip around the lake.

July 19, 2025. Strange my review is centered around the restroom access. Park is ok if you don't need a restroom. Restroom buildings are closed. 2 port-a-johns - nasty. No toilet paper. We were disappointed. Bring your own TP. Front-load trash dumpster has a sign to latch it due to bears in the area. Latch broken. Door will open easily. Once these items are "fixed", it's a nice park.

Beautiful lake and .mountain views. Nice hik around lake, about 2 miles. There are some trees down, but they have been working on clearing the trail. Campground is closed for now (1 March 2025)
