Branched Oak SRA

Overview

Branched Oak SRA stands as the largest recreation area in eastern Nebraska, offering a sprawling 1,800-acre lake surrounded by nearly 4,000 acres of scenic public land. As a premier destination for RVers visiting the Cornhusker State, this park balances high-energy water sports with peaceful lakeside camping. It is a widely popular destination that serves as a cornerstone for outdoor recreation near the state capital. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway or a long-term stay, the park’s diverse ecosystem provides a refreshing escape into nature.

Location & Surroundings

Located just north of Raymond, NE, and a short drive from Lincoln, the park sits nestled within the rolling hills and tallgrass prairie characteristic of the region. The landscape is dominated by the massive reservoir, which provides stunning sunset views across the water. RVers will find the park easily accessible from major highways, yet it feels worlds away from the city's hustle. The wooded shorelines and open meadows offer a variety of vistas, from secluded coves to expansive perspectives that highlight the beauty of the Great Plains.

Amenities & Park Features

The park offers a massive selection of campsites distributed across several distinct areas. RV travelers can choose from sites with electric hookups or more primitive options, depending on their setup. Key features include modern restrooms, hot showers, and convenient dump stations. For those bringing toys, the park provides multiple boat ramps and dedicated swimming beaches. Families often appreciate the well-maintained playgrounds and the presence of fish cleaning stations, which make processing the day’s catch a breeze after a long afternoon on the water.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water-based activities are the primary draw here, with the lake being a hotspot for boating, sailing, and fishing for walleye and catfish. On land, the park features an extensive trail system perfect for hiking, mountain biking, and even equestrian use at the dedicated horse camp. Just twenty minutes away, visitors can explore the Nebraska State Capitol or the Sunken Gardens in Lincoln. For those interested in local flavor, the nearby town of Raymond offers a quiet glimpse into rural Nebraska life while providing essential supplies for campers.

Who This Park Is Best For

This recreation area is ideal for active families and groups who enjoy a vibrant, social atmosphere near the water. Because of its size and proximity to urban centers, it is a perfect fit for those who want the convenience of modern amenities without sacrificing the outdoor experience. It is also a top choice for boating enthusiasts who require reliable ramp access and ample space to navigate. If you prefer a quiet, solitary retreat, visiting during the weekdays provides a more serene experience than the bustling summer weekends.

Had an amazing camping weekend! The goose poop on the beach was a bit much. My daughter found a bracelet on by the beach. Attached is a picture.

Me and my family's go to place for daytrips and camping. Lots of campsites available, though ones by the water are mostly first come first served. The beach and lake are one of the cleanest in the area and the beaches are nice, Liebers point is our favorite. Lots of space for boats and jetskis to launch and go on the water. Trees and nature are beautiful and there are 1 or 2 walking trails but this park is best for swimming, camping and picnicking.

Great lake to go fishing or grab a bite to eat. They also have a marina and bait shop. It's a pretty busy place tho and if you use U.S.Cellular for your cell provider then I can assure you that you'll not have any cell service out here. But other than that it's a cool place to visit.

Branched Oak Campgrounds are very green and shaded. We camped in Area 4! Our spot has water nearby and electricity. The campsites are spacious, with a lot of grassy areas out back. I hate camping in those 8 foot slot style RV parks! The only complaint that I could give is that the restroom/shower water stinks like sulfur in the pipes when you turn the water on. Thank goodness the water coming in from the campsite spigots did NOT smell! The park is well maintained and safe.
