Camden
Overview
Camden State Park offers a unique transition from the flat agricultural plains to the lush, wooded valley of the Redwood River. Established in 1935, this park retains much of its historic charm through Civilian Conservation Corps architecture. It provides a peaceful retreat for RVers looking to escape into a landscape of rolling hills and cool waters. Whether you are staying for a weekend or passing through southwest Minnesota, the park provides a refreshing change of scenery for those traveling through the heart of the Midwest.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just south of Lynd, MN, the park is nestled within the Redwood River Valley. This location is distinct because it features a microclimate where cool, spring-fed waters support flora and fauna not commonly found in the surrounding prairie. Travelers will find themselves surrounded by diverse ecosystems ranging from oak woods to restored prairies, providing a sense of seclusion despite being only a short drive from the city of Marshall.
Amenities & Park Features
The park offers two distinct camping areas: the Lower and Upper Campgrounds. The Lower Campground is heavily shaded by mature trees and sits near the river, while the Upper Campground provides expansive prairie views. Most sites offer electric hookups, including 50-amp service for larger rigs. On-site facilities include seasonal modern restrooms, showers, and a convenient dump station. For recreation, the park features a spring-fed swimming pond with a sandy beach and multiple picnic shelters.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts can explore over 15 miles of hiking trails or take the Camden Regional Trail, a paved path connecting the park to Marshall. Anglers enjoy brown trout fishing in the Redwood River, while birdwatchers can spot numerous species throughout the wooded valley. Nearby, the city of Marshall offers cultural attractions like the Southwest Minnesota State University campus and local dining, providing a balance of nature and urban convenience for those staying longer near the prairie lands.
Who This Park Is Best For
Camden State Park is ideal for nature lovers and families who appreciate a quiet, scenic environment over a resort-style experience. Its well-spaced sites and natural shade make it perfect for RVers seeking a rustic yet comfortable getaway. Because of its varied trail system and water features, it is a top choice for hikers, cyclists, and those who enjoy exploring historic landmarks within a state park setting.

Camden State Park is one of my absolute favorite State Parks in Minnesota. I think it's shocking that it's not busier and more popular! There is a fantastic swimming hole which is a great opportunity to cool off during the Summer months. The river flowing through the park is beautiful, and there's an awesome bridge and pathways through a lot of the park. I haven't done much hiking here, but there's clearly tons to explore.

Camden State Park was a pleasantly surprisingly great overall state park. From the entrance it kinda looked like it was just going to be rolling prairies. But if you drive down towards the beach, you actually get some quick elevation change and go down into a beautiful valley area with the Redwood River flowing through it. The beach is small and on a pond, but a nice feature. They have trout in the river to fish for. The Redwood lodge looks like it would be nice to rent.

The swimming pond was a welcomed treat after a hot and humid hike through the woods and prairie on the Hiking Club Trail! The pond is always frigid but honestly it felt so amazing after our hike, we jumped in with our clothes on! There were a lot of people (campers and locals) using the pond/beach. It is shallow in most spots for kids to splash around. Ideal for hot summer days! We camped n the lower campground and it was great for our group. It's definitely more out in the open but we hardly ever heard or saw our neighbors as everyone was out and about exploring. We went at the end of June and there were zero bugs which was also a nice treat. There were intense summer storms with a tornado spotted about an hour away from the campground and the Ranger came around to every campsite and told everyone where the shelter was and how far away the tornado and hail was because the cell phone service is very limited within the park.
