Located within the stunning Candle Lake Provincial Park, Sandy Bay Campground offers a quintessential Saskatchewan wilderness experience. This park is celebrated for its lush boreal forest landscape and its proximity to the sparkling, clear waters of Candle Lake. It serves as a premier destination for those looking to escape the city and immerse themselves in a serene lakeside setting that feels both remote and welcoming.

Location & Surroundings

The campground is situated on the western shore of Candle Lake, known specifically for its white sand beaches that feel more like a coastal getaway than a prairie park. Surrounded by towering pines and trembling aspens, the sites offer varying degrees of privacy and shade. The surrounding area is relatively flat, making it easy to navigate, while the translucent blue water provides a striking backdrop for every sunrise. The park's location provides easy access to the local village for supplies while maintaining a quiet, secluded atmosphere.

  • Well-maintained playgrounds scattered throughout the camping loops.
  • Potable water stations and firewood available for purchase at the park.

The presence of these utilities ensures that campers can enjoy a comfortable stay while remaining close to the rugged outdoor activities they love.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the campsite, visitors can explore the unique Minowukaw Sand Dunes, a natural phenomenon located just a short drive away. Anglers frequently visit the lake to test their luck with walleye and northern pike, while golfers can enjoy a round at the nearby professional course. The Ashenground and Boardwalk trails offer accessible hiking opportunities through the wetlands, providing excellent vantage points for birdwatching and spotting local wildlife. The lake itself is perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, and windsurfing during the warm summer months.

My family and I love to camp here or even just for a day at the beach every summer. We usually take our lunch at the beach so kids can play and swim and go back to the camp before dinner.

I have been coming to this campground for years, never ever had a problem. The people they have working there are always in a good mood and make you feel welcome. The campsites are always clean and semi private (ones I've used anyways) The beaches are clean and the atmosphere is even better. If you're looking for a good time and fun activi with the kids this would be good for you. They have showers to clean yourself and there is even a couple washer and dryers for you to use ($2 per washer/dryer) Don't forget to bring your own laundry soap, fabrics softener and dryer sheets! You can expect your neighbors to be very respectful and quiet and some might even say Hi! I will definitely will be coming here to for years to come! Did I mention they have a canoe you can rent hourly?

I love Candle Lake! Great sites! Really nice walking path, sandy beaches, water is great to paddle board on, and just discovered a nice disk golf course 45 min leisurely walk from our campsite (much shorter to drive obviously!!) Bathrooms are ok, the ones near our site were dark but always had toilet paper and never felt (or smelled) gross. The bathrooms with showers were nice enough. Lots of spots with water for dishes. Love the laundry room as it has a nice big sink.

One of my favourite Sk parks for camping 🏕️ First time camping here and the service is great the camping Area is well structured, nice fire pit, not much rocks on the ground and lots of trees surrounded. Close to a lot of nice “beaches” 🏖️ Speaking of which, the beaches are awesome, CRISTAL WATER, beautiful 🤩 ONLY ONE THING that bugs me, the fact that the water is FRIGID… let’s say ARTIC!! 🥶 I can’t go inside, but the kids don’t care 😂 very shallow and it perfect for kids.

Staff was extremely helpful in getting us a site for a large group when we were evacuated from another campground
