Cascade Locks Marine Park Campground

Overview

Cascade Locks Marine Park Campground offers a unique camping experience situated directly on the banks of the Columbia River. Managed by the Port of Cascade Locks, this facility combines maritime history with modern outdoor recreation. Travelers can enjoy the sight of large barges passing by and the sound of the river while staying in a well-maintained public park environment. It serves as a gateway to the dramatic landscapes of the Columbia River Gorge.

Location & Surroundings

The park is located in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, just a short walk from the historic Bridge of the Gods. Its location provides a front-row seat to the river's activity and the steep, forested cliffs that define the region. Because it is positioned near the Pacific Crest Trail, the area serves as a vibrant hub for hikers and adventurers transitioning between the river and the mountains.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground provides a selection of sites that include water and electric hookups, making it a comfortable stop for RVers. While there are no sewer connections at individual sites, a convenient sanitary dump station is located within the park. Amenities include:

  • Clean restrooms and hot showers
  • Easy access to the Port boat ramp
  • Picnic shelters and a playground
  • Vibrant green spaces for relaxation

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Visitors are just steps away from Thunder Island, a scenic spot for photography and relaxing by the water. Beyond the park, travelers can explore several local favorites:

  • Sightseeing on the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler
  • Hiking the world-famous Pacific Crest Trail
  • Driving to nearby Multnomah Falls
  • Sampling craft beer at local breweries

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for travelers who prioritize location and natural beauty over resort-style luxuries. It is a fantastic choice for hikers, bird watchers, and those who enjoy watching the maritime traffic on the Columbia River. Because of its proximity to the highway and railroad, it is best suited for active RVers who plan to spend their days exploring the Gorge. If you seek a scenic riverside base camp with deep historical roots, this is the perfect spot.

Perfect if you like being arms length from the next camper. No trees to feel any kind of privacy from others. Just an open lot with drive in campsites one on top of the other. We actually booked this online ahead of time and left after we arrived and saw the conditions. It’s not for anyone who actually wants to feel an ounce of privacy or “real camping”. I don’t know what this is but it’s not real camping 🤣

Train at night was very loud, but the campground was clean and well maintained. The host was fantastic.

Great location. Enjoyed walking around Thunder Island and watching the boats. The host was very nice and helpful. Sites are a bit tight, but worth it for the experience.

Beautiful by day, horrible by night. The area is really beautiful and we thought we had the perfect spot. Until we noticed the trains, they came by allllll night long. Too bad because the rest was pretty awesome but will not visit again because of this. The noise of the trains was deafening.
