Cattail Cove

Overview

Cattail Cove State Park offers a serene escape along the shores of the Colorado River. This 2,000-acre park is a haven for those looking to experience the rugged beauty of the Arizona desert paired with the refreshing waters of Lake Havasu. Unlike the high-energy atmosphere of the city center, this park provides a tranquil atmosphere where the sound of the water takes center stage. It serves as an ideal base for water enthusiasts and nature lovers seeking a slower pace of life during their RV travels.

Location & Surroundings

Situated approximately 15 miles south of Lake Havasu City, the park is nestled in a cove that protects it from the main channel's heavy boat traffic. The surrounding landscape features a mix of sandy beaches and volcanic rock formations typical of the Mohave Desert. Visitors are treated to spectacular sunsets over the water and views of the surrounding mountains. The area is known for its diverse wildlife, including bighorn sheep and various migratory birds that frequent the shoreline throughout the year.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features 61 sites equipped with electric and water hookups, supporting both 30 and 50-amp service. While there are no sewer hookups at the individual sites, a convenient dump station is available on-site. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring for evening gatherings. Park amenities include:

  • Four-lane launching ramp and boat trailer parking
  • Designated swimming beach and dog-friendly beach area
  • Modern restrooms and hot shower facilities
  • Access to shoreline fishing areas

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw here, with several hiking trails like the Whitetail Trail offering views of the lake and desert hills. Anglers often find success fishing for bass, bluegill, and crappie right from the shore or by boat. For a day trip, the historic London Bridge in Lake Havasu City is just a short drive away. To the south, the Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge provides incredible birding opportunities and a look at unique riparian habitats for nature enthusiasts.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is perfect for outdoor adventurers who prefer a natural setting over a luxury resort environment. It is particularly well-suited for boaters and kayakers who want immediate waterfront access to the lake. Families will enjoy the safe swimming areas, while retirees often appreciate the quiet evenings and scenic vistas. If you value a connection to the desert landscape and water recreation without being too far from city conveniences, this state park is an excellent choice for your next stay.

What a cool vibe that was. So relaxing, just miles south of Havasu proper, noice chill zone before hitting Parker's festival of activities. Very and peaceful, loved the mini hike.

One the best campground we have been. Checking in was easy and young lady so so nice. Site was very clean with water and electricity hook up. Bathrooms very clean with showers. Nice beach and hiking trails. Even had a separate dog beach. Nice cactus garden and fruit trees! Everybody so nice.

Best place you stay max 14 days stay but well worth it Clean well maintained bathrooms... hiking trails are great for every level of experience.. dog park with their own water area (not fully fenced) BUT your dog should be voice command training in high social areas! Plenty of dog walking areas on the levy and wash Run with pet stations! White sand beach for day use and a second beach for jet skiing and boats also only day use (remove your pop-ups.. cant save spots for next day first come first use) friendly kind staff and long term volunteers ... a cactus garden for a wonder walk ... and an amputheater (however you spell that lol) Has a trade wall books for reading DVDs for viewing and puzzles for mind exercising... bring your horseshoes there is a pit BOAT RAMP and parking (plenty)

This was our second time at Cattail Cove and we really enjoyed our visit. The campground is clean and well maintained. This park is absolutely dog friendly with many places to walk. We also hiked the McKinny loop. The rangers were friendly and helpful. We had good cell service. While it was very windy one day we still had a great time. Zero issues and would recommend for those who want to hike or enjoy the river.

We had an amazing time at this state park. Spot 59 fit our 42 ft camper, squishy, but we fit. There are grills at each campsite, all sites are 30amp but 4 are 50 amp. Water & power at each site with a dump station upon leaving. Theres a human beach and a dog beach, hiking, kayaking, camping, & grilling. We had a wonderful time with beautiful scenic views for sunset. Highly recommended park!
