Location & Surroundings

Situated just east of Rockville, IN, the park is nestled within a region famous for its rolling hills and agricultural heritage. The Raccoon State Recreation Area is surrounded by lush hardwood forests that transform into a vibrant display of color every autumn. Its position in Parke County makes it a gateway to the area's iconic historic covered bridges and vintage mills. The landscape is defined by the massive lake, which offers miles of winding shoreline and secluded coves that provide a sense of privacy and exploration.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground is well-equipped for RV travelers, featuring more than 250 electric sites that accommodate various rig sizes. Visitors have access to modern comfort stations with heated showers and restrooms, ensuring a comfortable stay even during the cooler shoulder seasons. For recreation, the park includes a large swimming beach, multiple boat launch ramps, and a seasonal camp store for essentials. Families often appreciate the well-maintained playgrounds and the dedicated archery range, which adds a unique touch to the standard state park amenity list.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is undoubtedly the water, where boating and fishing for striped bass and walleye are top priorities. Beyond the park boundaries, visitors can explore the 31 historic structures that give Parke County its title as the Covered Bridge Capital of the world. A short drive leads to the historic village of Mansfield or the Bridgeton Mill, where local history and craftsmanship are on full display. Hikers will find several miles of trails within the SRA that wind through mature forests and offer frequent views of the lake.

Very nice campground. Bath houses were well kept and clean. Many of the sites are sloped, so make sure you bring blocks.

Took a spontaneous trip down memory lane to Raccoon State Recreation Park and it was just as magical as I remembered. I spent so many summers of my childhood at this lake and beach, and it was wonderful to revisit. The weather was perfectly cool, the sun was warm, and there was hardly a soul in sight—so peaceful and nostalgic. A perfect spot to relax and soak in some memories!

Very nice and clean lake. The property was clean and quiet. Nice fishing spots. And the ramp is well built and big so easy loading and unloading

One of Indiana’s great state parks. We stopped in on a chilly rainy day and had the park to ourselves. The beach area opens on Memorial Day weekend. Boat ramp was big and plenty of room to back that thing up. Plenty of picnic tables both covered and uncovered. Pavilions, bathrooms and fish cleaning area. What a park!

I love it here. It has camping, fishing, trails, playgrounds, and a big beach. Seeing it with less water was interesting.
