Overview

Nestled within the lush canopy of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Richardson Lake Campground offers a quintessential Northwoods camping experience. This quiet destination near Wabeno, Wisconsin, provides a peaceful retreat for those looking to escape the hustle of modern life. Managed by the U.S. Forest Service, the park emphasizes natural preservation and a rustic atmosphere, making it a favorite for travelers who value solitude and proximity to the water over resort-style luxuries.

Location & Surroundings

Located just west of Wabeno, the campground sits on the shores of the crystal-clear 47-acre Richardson Lake. The landscape is dominated by towering pines and hardwoods, creating a secluded environment where sites are well-separated by dense foliage. The surrounding national forest provides a vast backdrop of protected wilderness, ensuring that the only sounds you are likely to hear are the calls of loons. This serene lakeside setting offers a true immersion into Wisconsin's natural beauty.

Amenities & Park Features

As a traditional Forest Service site, the amenities here focus on the essentials for a comfortable outdoor stay. The campground features 26 rustic campsites, many of which can accommodate smaller RVs and trailers. While there are no electric or water hookups, guests have access to vault toilets and potable water from hand pumps. On-site facilities include a paved boat ramp and a dedicated swimming beach. The lack of modern distractions makes it an ideal spot to enjoy the dark night skies by the fire.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors. Richardson Lake is known for its excellent fishing opportunities, particularly for panfish, northern pike, and largemouth bass. For those who prefer land-based adventures, the nearby Nicolet State Trail provides miles of multi-use paths for hiking and ATV riding. In the town of Wabeno, history buffs can explore the Wabeno Logging Museum, which reflects the region's deep roots in the timber industry and local heritage.

Who This Park Is Best For

Definitely need a four wheeling drove drive to get here. So worth the drive in. Warm lake. Fishing. Canoeing. Magic

Clear water, nice sand beach with a boat launch. We were able to launch our kayaks by a 50 yard walk thru the back of our campsite! Very quiet campground. We saw loons, juvenile eagle and a swan family! Restrooms were vault toilets but clean. Nice fire ring and picnic table at each site. Dog friendly.

I caught my first panfish on this lake. I was five years old in 1966. I’ve been back several times through the years. It’s always clean and quiet. It’s a very pleasant place. I’m planning to return in the next few days.

Beautiful campground, stayed the weekend 6-10-23 and it was less than a third full. Many first come first serve sites were available. Very hard to find a bad site here, we’ll spaced, nicely wooded and most very level for parking vans and trailers. Nice beach. There were a pair a loons, four trumpeter swans, and a few geese battling for our attention.

We visited this nice lake campground on 1st July, most of the campsites in chequamegan national forest were booked. We found campsite 6 available in this campground. Mosquitos welcomed us before we can setup our equipment so mosquito repellent is recommended. Campground has vault toilets , also couple of water pumps, one of them is near to campsite 6 and 7. Camp host was very welcoming and helped us to figure out available campsite. Mobile coverage: yes Outdoor Activity : kayaking, fishing in lake
