Was here in May recently on an excursion with the cruise stop at Skagway. It was a canoe safari to see wildlife but not much canoeing as we had a motorised canoe out to the lake. Unfortunately did not see any bear or other wildlife except birds. Overall the excursion was ok although the price was a bit high. We had to take a ferry to and from Skagway and then a small van to Chilkoot lake. The tour guide was informative and there was also some commentary on the ferry ride.

Not much to it, but a lovely place for some solitude if you want it. There is a small boat launch where tour groups from the cruise ships head out from and a small campground. The lake is absolutely beautiful. Beware, there are plenty of bears in the area so don't be stupid.

We did a bicycle riding tour from halfway down the Lukat Inlet up to Chilkoot Lake. Honestly, the lake itself, while nice, wasn't the highlight. The highlight was more of the journey along the road. As we cycled we saw the inlet a low tide and later at high tide; a marked difference - boats went from resting on a mud flat to being afloat. We saw a Grizzly/Kodiak feasting at the Weir. We saw eagles and nests in several spots, with a few being fairly close (I do have a decent lens). We also passed several small waterfalls you might not notice if rushing by in a vehicle. The morning fog made for an interesting view of the inlet.

If you love nature, this is the place to be! Could go berry picking, small hike around the lake or a kayak ride.

The famous bear watching site and salmon fishing spot. If you see a bear, DONT RUN! Witnessed an older couple disregarded guide’s warning of don’t run and ran, the bear came after them. If the guide didn’t have their bear horn ready, it could be ugly. For them. I would’ve got great photos. Eagles are soaring in the valley, bears are coming in and out of the woods searching for salmons on the creeks, and ravens and magpies are flying around calling each other.

Great camp ground. Rustic, spaced out sites. Good pit toilets. And a bear in camp to add some Excitement!!! Beautiful lake. Close to Haines if your getting off the ferry with your camper.

What an EPIC lake. Kayaking on this lake was just an experience. Also a very scenic drive to get here. Bathrooms are available! If you cruised like I did to Haines you are not biking or walking here you definitely need to rent a car or purchase an excursion. Saw someone who biked here and they looked about ready to kill over (and mind you that's biking only one way). Regardless, beautiful river and lake along with great opportunities to see salmon and bears!
