Cinco de Mayo Campground

I hardly ever leave reviews — good or bad — but after my stay here from 08/10 to 08/22, I feel I need to share my experience. Unfortunately, it was awful from start to finish. My boyfriend and I went above and beyond to be respectful guests. We followed every rule: kept our dogs leashed, picked up after them, and did our best to keep them quiet for the night-shift workers staying nearby. We even timed our walks to avoid other people, yet we were constantly followed by the owner, Jojo, at a distance, while her friend stood outside staring at our RV and the dogs. It made us feel watched and uncomfortable the entire stay. What made things even more concerning was the fact that Jojo made a point not to speak to my boyfriend at all and seemed to target me specifically. I had actually asked my parents to book this campground for me, since I wasn’t very familiar with the area, and my mom even spoke with Jojo directly about the dogs, the campground policies, and the fact that I worked in a mental health/behavioral setting — which Jojo said she appreciated because she wanted to “keep out the party goers.” Despite this, she never communicated any concerns directly with me, my boyfriend, or even my parents after we arrived. We received no warnings whatsoever about any issues, even though she had told both us and my parents that verbal warnings would be given before any permanent decisions were made. In fact, I had to message her on two separate occasions just to get basic information, such as where to put our trash and how to connect to the Wi-Fi, because she was so uncommunicative. In the end, Jojo kicked us out, claiming my dog was “aggressive” and “lunging” at people. This is simply not true. My dog may have pulled slightly on his leash, but only because he was excited to say hello — something that Jojo’s friend actually encouraged by talking to him and trying to pet him. For her to then turn around and use that moment as a complaint against us felt unfair and dishonest. Meanwhile, her own dog was often off-leash and seemed to provoke ours without issue. Jojo later justified her decision by saying the “dog was not a good fit for my park,” which only reinforced how arbitrary and unfair the reasoning was. To make matters worse, Jojo informed me of all this on a Sunday morning — fully knowing that I had to work the next day and would have no real time to make alternate arrangements since I worked throughout the week. She said she would “honor” the contract we had signed since we booked the full month, but also told us she wanted us out “as soon as possible.” That put us in an extremely difficult and stressful position, and we ended up leaving that Friday simply to avoid further conflict. Jojo also mentioned that she was “trying to move away from having dogs at the campground,” which made it feel like she was just looking for an excuse to remove us. If that’s the case, it should be made clear upfront instead of targeting responsible dog owners who follow the rules. Despite how frustrated and hurt I was, I didn’t cause a fuss on the day we left because I knew she and her friends were preparing for a get-together after a funeral. I didn’t want to create more stress for them, even though I had every reason to get nasty after the way we were treated. I left feeling not only disappointed but also hurt. We respected the space, never left the dogs unattended, and tried our absolute best to avoid conflict — yet were treated unfairly. I do not recommend this campground, especially for travelers with pets. There are many other places where guests (and their dogs) are treated with fairness and respect.

Cute little place. Really designed for the under 30' travel trailer group. My 45' Newell Coach was a challenge to get into the park and get parked, but it's doable. Nice, quiet evening

Small campground with 5 sites and a couple cabins. Nice amenities and and a serene location. We stayed in campsite 5. The other sites and cabins appeared to be long term renters. Only complaint is the how un-level site 5 was side to side, we used all the leveling blocks we had and still needed a couple more inches. Bathroom and property was clean and modern. Tmobile service was roaming on AT&T with okay service. Not sure if wifi was available. Will stay here again next time we're in the area.

I had a great time at cinco de mayo. I was there for 6 months. It was a very healthy and happy environment. The house I was in was up to date clean and very charming. We had a few hiccups with some abandoned dogs and a broken appliance but the landlord, and neighbor were very professional and courteous in helping me solve the problems. I would recommend this place to anyone. There are a lot of places nearby to explore trails, hike, fish, swim, and just in general have an awesome time. I hope to return one day in my travels. Until next time have a great time out there. I will miss it.

Cute, small cabins close to the river and great space for camping! Plus, Jo, the hostess, was super cool and accommodating. Will def go back and stay sometime when paddling the Saint!

Had the pleasure of parking my conversion here for a peaceful night in the early Spring. Coming off of 67 it was a real treat to find a woodsy, quiet campground so close to the highway - without a whisper of highway traffic. The local access road is practically silent at night. I heard an owl and peepers in the creek. The light pollution is so minimal in this area, the stargazing conditions are excellent. The site management is very obviously in tune with what both full- and part-time travelers need in a dock. They were super prompt to respond to my last-minute inquiry. With the amenities of Fredericktown and Farmington just minutes away, I'll definitely be returning to further explore the mines, caves, and old growth forest.
