Clearwater Lake - COE/Piedmont Park
Overview
Piedmont Park at Clearwater Lake offers a serene escape managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Located in the picturesque Ozark foothills of Missouri, this destination is centered around a 1,600-acre reservoir known for its crystal-clear waters and lush greenery. Travelers visiting this park will find a peaceful atmosphere where the focus remains on outdoor recreation and the preservation of natural beauty. It serves as a gateway to the scenic Black River, providing a quiet retreat for those looking to disconnect from the hustle of urban life while enjoying well-maintained facilities.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just outside the town of Piedmont, Missouri, the park is nestled within the rugged landscapes of the St. Francois Mountains. The surrounding area is characterized by dense hardwood forests and rocky bluffs that create a stunning backdrop for any RV stay. The lake itself is fed by the Black River, which remains a primary draw for visitors. Because the park is somewhat secluded, it offers an authentic Ozark wilderness experience, though local supplies and small-town charm are only a short drive away in the community of Piedmont.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground is designed with the modern RVer in mind, offering numerous sites with electric hookups to ensure a comfortable stay. Guests have access to essential facilities, including heated shower houses, flush toilets, and a convenient dump station. For those traveling with families, the park features multiple playgrounds and picnic shelters. Water enthusiasts will appreciate the designated swimming beach and the concrete boat ramps, which provide easy access to the lake for motorized vessels, kayaks, and canoes.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the lake, the region is a haven for nature lovers. A short trip leads to Sam A. Baker State Park, where hikers can explore miles of ancient trails. Anglers frequent the area for top-tier bass and crappie fishing, while the Black River below the dam is popular for floating and wading. For a unique geological experience, many travelers visit Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park or Elephant Rocks State Park, both of which offer breathtaking natural rock formations and swimming holes within driving distance.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for active families and anglers who prefer a traditional camping experience over a commercial resort. It is a perfect fit for RVers who enjoy water-based activities and value the spacious, wooded sites typical of COE locations. If you are seeking a quiet, nature-centric getaway where the sound of the wind through the pines and the lapping of lake waves take center stage, Piedmont Park is an excellent choice for your next Missouri adventure.

This place is just beautiful. I am camped on a hill overlooking the water. Very well maintained and it even has covered picnic tables so, no need for a fly when raining. Very nice touch. Electric in this site and water spigots every few sites to fill tanks and hot showers. One of the nicest places I have camped since I departed on the road full time over two years ago.

I did a whole bunch of preparing, and planning, to spend a few days here. I didn't think cell phone service would be an issue. But it is, Piedmont is inside of mark twain national forest. I knew this, but didn't put it together until I got there. Every park I've been to within the mark twain boundaries has had cell phone issues or zero service at all. I liked piedmont for the price and amenities included, and it turned out to be really nice looking. I wanted to stay, but I couldn't get any sleep without having a little background noise, so I packed up and left after just one night, canceling 3 nights, and suffering a $10 cancellation fee, I took a few pictures of the lake upon arrival. Everything was great until my phone turned into a pocket watch.

Quiet, peaceful, relaxing. I spent several nights and had a wonderful view. The camp host, Sandy, was pleasant and very helpful. I'm going to stop again on my way back home

We came down from the Chicagoland area to visit family and also to see the total eclipse (April 8, 2024). We wanted to avoid high traffic areas so I ventured down south a bit and came across this park. It was absolutely perfect for viewing and was a great place to hang out and have a picnic. There’s a jungle gym for kids, boat launch, bathrooms, etc. At first I was worried it was just for camping, but we were able to come right in and spend the day there (no charge!). Highly recommended if you’re looking for a nice park to spend some time.

Great COE experience. Really nice spaces with enough area between slots. Trees are nice but so drop large acorns.
