Coconino/Rock Crossing Campground, Happy Jack, AZ

The  largest  and  probably  the  best  campground  in  the  immediate area.  Off  the  highway  on  a  wide  improved dirt road.  30  sites  1/2 "FCFS" 1/2 rec.gov. Water and  vault  toilets.  Wide  spacing  of  most  sites.  Fee  was  $20  2025.  Please  note  maps  of  the  area  very  inaccurate  except  for  road  to  the  campground. Main  road  ends  at  the  river  others  roads  gated  and  a  maze  tracks going  nowhere.  We stayed   here May 2025.

Clean, well maintained sites and facilities. $20 a night, a few spots are usually not reserved, recommended to reserve in advance if you don’t want dispersed camping. 10-15 minutes to the reservoir by vehicle.

Nice quiet well kept campground. 1/2 price if you use your America the beautiful pass.

Great campground! Sites are far enough apart so you don't feel like you are on top of your neighbor. All sites have great location for tents.
The cleanest campground I've nb been to in years. Top notch hosts.

It was located about a 15-minute drive from the reservoir. Had bathrooms spaced throughout the campground with a water spigot adjacent,  so the walk wasn't too bad from any of the sites which filled right up on Friday afternoon. I checked out a few other camps around my area and they all had nicely sized cooler containers built out of metal, called bear-savers. I stored my ice chest along with my plates, cups, silverware, 12" skillet, propane cooker, zipper bags (for chairs, tent, and sleeping bags), my lantern, and a pack of those small propane tanks for the cooker and lantern. Each site had a built-up campfire with a retractable grill that went halfway for cooking and a separate grill. There were single and double campsites. The only difference is the double campsites had two of everything including driveways and parking spots. Single site a night costs 20$ and 40 for the double. My only complaint would be the shading. My site had none whatsoever and the sites that had some around me were marked reserved. When I first got there they were marked reserved from the 15th-18th and on the 19th the site volunteer went and marked them reserved from the 20th-23rd. I stayed until the 20th and all the reserved stayed empty.

We were group of 5, we absolutely loved this campground. We have never been to Happy Jack and this place was amazing how dense the trees where compared to Sedona and Flagstaff camping areas.

Campsite is relatively small, but its well maintained and more importantly it has a flat surface to setup tent (loved it). Host was friendly, campsite, restrooms were well maintained. And there is a BEAUTIFUL Reservoir near, the whole area is awesome, my friends loved it.

If you forget firewood don't worry you can collect some wood logs from the forest, you will find good bunch of logs ying on the ground.

If you are looking for a Pizza or a Gas Station near by, there is one in 10mins but it closes at 6pm. So plan your food accordingly.

We saw lot of elks and deers on the freeway about 6pm, it was quite a site to watch.

Awesome campground. Easy to find but still tucked away enough that it wasn't over crowded. The hosts were super nice and helpful and the campsites and bathrooms were incredibly clean.

We love this campsite! The volunteers really do such an amazing job at keeping everything nice and clean. The bathrooms are always clean which is a big plus when you’re camping! There are fire pits and grills at each site. It is right near the reservoir so on hot days you can go down to the water and swim or go on paddle boards or kayaks. There are some spots with amazing views too! It can get tricky during peak season getting a first come first serve spot. But this is our favorite camping spot and will be coming back for sure! Highly recommend!

Rock Crossing Campground  is a classic Coconino district campground sitting at a bit over 7100ft of elevation making it a cool(ish) break from the 117° Valley in the summer. Lush pine forest with wildlife in abundance. It's common to have humming birds, woodpeckers, Stellar Jays and Ravens along with wild turkey. Chipmunks,  foxes and even Elk are also common sitings from the campsites.
The most popular recreation near by is Kayaking on a local reservoir snaking thru a rocky canyon.
Art & T are the campground hosts here and do a spectacular job keeping this place as spotless as a campground could be. Clean restrooms and perfectly groomed campsites all around.
We plan on returning often.

Our camp host was great and helped us get into a spot for the night with our 40ft RV and our truck tow. The sites are part first come first serve and part reservation. Very limited spots that could fit us, but that’s okay, it’s a big rv. No hook ups. About 15 minutes to the reservoir. $20 a night or $40 a night if you have extra people or a double site. Clean bathrooms and trash service. The camp area and roads around the sites are well maintained. Kids had a great time exploring tree fronts built by others. Glad we didn’t have a cliff spot or I would have been a bit nervous about the kids. Views for days though!

Nice and quiet place to camp out at. Clean area as well.
