Colter Bay Village RV Park

Overview

Colter Bay Village RV Park serves as a premier base camp located within the scenic boundaries of Grand Teton National Park. Unlike many traditional national park campgrounds that offer limited services, this facility provides the rare luxury of full hookups amidst a dense forest of lodgepole pines. It offers a comfortable transition between rugged wilderness and modern convenience, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in the Tetons without sacrificing essential utilities. The atmosphere is active yet serene, catering to those who want immediate access to the great outdoors while maintaining a reliable home base.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated on the northern shore of Jackson Lake in Moran, WY, offering a landscape defined by dramatic mountain peaks and crystalline waters. The surroundings are quintessentially alpine, with the Teton Range providing a jagged, snow-capped backdrop to the village. Because the park is nestled within a natural forest, most sites enjoy significant shade and a sense of privacy. Wildlife sightings, including elk and moose, are common occurrences within the village perimeter, making the natural scenery a constant highlight for guests.

Amenities & Park Features

Designed for convenience and ease of use, the park features over 100 sites that can accommodate large rigs. Key amenities include on-site laundry facilities and a large bathhouse with hot showers. The adjacent Colter Bay Village provides a well-stocked grocery store, multiple dining options, and a service station. For those traveling with watercraft, the Colter Bay Marina offers boat slips and rentals. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, encouraging traditional campfire evenings under the Wyoming stars.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The location is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can explore the Swan Lake and Heron Pond trails directly from the campground, which are excellent for birdwatching and easy hiking. The nearby marina allows for kayaking, canoeing, and motorboat rentals to explore the vastness of Jackson Lake. Scenic drives to Signal Mountain or the iconic Mormon Row historic district are within a short distance, and the nearby parkway provides a direct route for a day trip into Yellowstone National Park.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for family vacationers and long-haul travelers who want to experience the grandeur of the mountains with all the comforts of home. It is particularly well-suited for big-rig owners who require full hookups, which are difficult to find elsewhere in the national park system. Those who enjoy a mix of self-guided exploration and proximity to organized park services will find the village atmosphere perfect for an extended stay in the heart of the Wyoming wilderness.

Low 4, inside park-so convenient, sites needed some leveling, showers cost $5, ok for sleeping not really for hanging out. Lakeshore trail nearby nice easy hike with great Jackson Lake views.

Our family traveled from suburban Philadelphia to 12 national parks out west. This by far was one of our favorite locations the entire trip. We stayed here on our drive in to Yellowstone. The view of the Tetons and the lake at the base of the camp was incredible. We watched meteors fall over the lake and it was amazing. We stayed in the RV portion of the park which appeared to be almost entirely booked. Book well in advance of your stay. There is a store and laundry at the front of the RV park. Things are about 10% higher in cost in the park so it pays to be prepared. We had a pull through site for our RV with full hookups. Nearby families were not to loud and most were friendly. This is a good location to have a Basecamp for exploring the Tetons of even Yellowstone. Ps: if traveling to more than 2 national parks, I strongly suggest getting the national park pass. It saved my family a ton of money. It paid for itself after 3, maybe 4 parks.

Great staff they went out of their way to get us a camping site. They're more than a bit pricey for anything you need to purchase unfortunately. But since there's seriously nothing else around. Best get used to the high prices. Hey it's a tourist trap they're all that way. Overall we loved the place it was more than worth going. Be sure to expect over priced everything? Bought 2 canned sodas, 2 National Park walking stick medals @$5.99, 2 National Park window stickers @$3.99 each and 1 peach. At a total cost $43.85? My fault I really should have looked at the total at the register. Instead of at the receipt after opening the drinks and taking a bite from the peach. As I stated kinda pricey to say the least. I'm a knife collector. Saw one with a bone handle and 3" blade. Was seriously going to purchase until I was told the price. They wanted $450.00? Well,,,,,obviously I wasn't even going to pay that price! Handed it back to the cashier telling them, "Apparently you want it more than I do" yes kinda pricey. Still amazing place to say the least. Just watch the pricing. Just look at the picture from their parking lot. Need I say more.

Loved this campground. It's extremely hard to get a full hookup site so make sure you book ASAP (at least in the summer). You can book up to 6 months in advance. The campground is shaded, walking distance to the Colter Bay Village and the beach with killer views.

We stayed here while seeing the Grand Tetons for a couple nights. Nice RV park with full hookups. Large pines in the campground. Pull through sites. #480 was our site. We have a 34’ fifth wheel. Fit nice.
