Overview
The Colusa-Sacramento River SRA offers a peaceful retreat nestled in the heart of California’s Central Valley. This state recreation area provides a lush, green sanctuary dominated by ancient cottonwood trees and willow groves along the banks of the Sacramento River. It is a place where the pace of life slows down, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a dense riparian environment that feels worlds away from the hustle of the city.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the historic town of Colusa, this park is conveniently located yet feels secluded. The surrounding landscape is defined by the Sacramento River, which serves as the primary focal point for all activity. The park sits on the Pacific Flyway, making it a lush oasis in a region characterized by fertile agricultural land. Visitors will find easy access to the water and can enjoy the sight of the nearby Sutter Buttes, often called the world’s smallest mountain range, on the horizon.
Amenities & Park Features
While the facilities are more rustic than a typical commercial resort, the park provides essential comforts for RVers. The campground features sites suitable for smaller rigs and trailers, complemented by restrooms and hot showers. One of the most significant features is the accessible boat launch, which provides easy entry for motorized boats, kayaks, and canoes. Shaded picnic areas are scattered throughout the park, offering cool spots for day-use visitors to enjoy the scenic river views.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Fishing is the main event here, with anglers frequently hauling in king salmon and striped bass depending on the season. Beyond the river, the Colusa National Wildlife Refuge is just a short drive away, offering incredible opportunities for birdwatching during the winter migration. For those interested in local history, the town of Colusa features charming architecture and local eateries. Hiking the park’s internal trails allows for quiet moments observing the local deer and grey fox populations.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal destination for avid anglers and nature photographers who prioritize proximity to the water over high-end resort amenities. It is a fantastic choice for those traveling in smaller RVs or camper vans who appreciate a quiet, low-density camping experience. $25 non electric site with water close by. Showers have token machines but they are disabled. Showers work without them. 1.3 mile uphill (steep grade) walk to the overlook.

Was a great experience, was able to stay the night close by, and BBQ'd our way.

This isn't the cleanest place to come to, but there are many different places to fish on the shore. There's a trail leading to a beachy fishing area on a bend. There is a fee for day use, camping, and boat ramp use. We paid $6 for the day use. Besides the active boats on the water, it's an enjoyable new fishing spot. It's not busy on land at all. There's plenty of parking in the month of April.

Just stayed here over night. Got no sleep. A stray retriever was wondering through the campground all night and could hear heavy breathing outside our tent. Next, morning the dog would not leave my husband and I alone. We packed up as quick as we could at 6am to head to Lake Tahoe.
