Custer/Parkside

Overview

Custer/Parkside RV Park offers a welcoming base for travelers exploring the rugged beauty of the Beartooth Mountains. Located on the southern edge of the historic town of Red Lodge, this park provides a delicate balance between tranquil natural settings and convenient access to local services. It serves as an ideal spot for those who want to experience the quintessential Montana mountain town atmosphere while maintaining the comforts of a well-maintained facility. The park is known for its mature trees and peaceful environment, making it a favorite for those passing through to Yellowstone.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just a short distance from the heart of downtown, the park is nestled among towering pines and sits near the banks of Rock Creek. The surrounding landscape is dominated by the dramatic peaks of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, providing a stunning backdrop for morning coffee. Guests often enjoy the crisp mountain air and the soothing sounds of the nearby creek, which makes the park feel like a true wilderness retreat. Despite this secluded feel, you are only minutes away from the eclectic shops and fine dining that define Red Lodge's historic district.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility focuses on providing essential services that cater to the modern RVer. Visitors can expect the following features during their stay:

  • Full hookups including water, sewer, and both 30 and 50-amp electrical service.
  • Spacious sites designed to accommodate various rig sizes with both back-in and pull-through options.
  • Access to reliable Wi-Fi and clean, private shower facilities.
  • On-site laundry room and picnic tables at every site for outdoor dining.

The park is specifically designed with shaded, level sites that offer a sense of privacy often missing in more crowded commercial resorts.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw for many guests is the proximity to the Beartooth Highway, often described as the most beautiful drive in America. This scenic route leads directly into the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Locally, outdoor enthusiasts can find endless hiking trails and world-class fly fishing in the Custer Gallatin National Forest. For those interested in local culture, the Red Lodge Home of Champions Rodeo and the Carbon County Historical Society and Museum provide deep insights into the region’s rich Western heritage and mining history.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is a perfect fit for adventure-seeking couples and retirees who want a quiet, organized home base while exploring the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Because of its strategic location at the base of the Beartooth Pass, it is a favorite for road trippers looking for a high-quality stop before tackling the high-altitude climb. It also appeals strongly to travelers who prefer smaller, community-focused parks over large-scale corporate campgrounds, offering a more personal and authentic Montana experience.

Have had the pleasure of hosting this campground for the summer of 2025. Wanted to say that these are some of the nicest, most hospitable fellow campers you could camp with. Very loyal following of this campground and it is easy to see why. Also as a heads up, because there is increasing confusing with new arrivals at this point in the season: all sites are currently first come, first serve, until we close, which is September 28th. Enjoy, and happy camping! We look forward to seeing you!

The hosts do a great job. Everything was clean and tidy. We stayed in both loops. 1-15 seemed to have dense trees and was closer to the creek. I was testing new portable solar panels and StarLink. The trees obstructed both but worked okay. I stayed at the other loop and the trees were not as thick and the sound of the creek was softer. But still a great campground.

Very nice forest service campground. Level spots spaced out so you’re not right on top of each other. Right at the Montana end of Beartooth Pass.

Beautiful campground right on creek. Very quiet. Host was very nice and answered all questions. Pit toilets were clean. Definitely a return will be in order
