Daniel Boone/Holly Bay Campground

Overview

Daniel Boone/Holly Bay Campground offers a serene escape within the lush canopy of the Daniel Boone National Forest. Positioned along the western shore of Laurel River Lake, it provides a tranquil atmosphere for travelers seeking to reconnect with nature. The campground is well-regarded for its spacious, paved campsites that blend seamlessly into the hardwood forest, making it a premier destination for those who appreciate a quiet, wooded setting over a commercial resort experience.

Location & Surroundings

Located just west of London, KY, the park sits on the shores of the Laurel River Lake, known for its remarkably clear turquoise water. The surrounding terrain is characterized by the rugged beauty of the Cumberland Plateau, featuring steep cliffs and dense foliage. This geographic location provides a natural buffer from highway noise, ensuring that the only sounds you hear are the rustling leaves and local wildlife typical of the Kentucky wilderness.

Amenities & Park Features

While the park maintains a rustic feel, it provides essential comforts for RVers, including several loops with electric hookups and paved parking spurs. Visitors have access to a centrally located dump station and pressurized water at various points throughout the loops. For those bringing watercraft, the facility includes a convenient boat ramp and a specialized fish cleaning station. Well-maintained bathhouses with hot showers and flush toilets are distributed across the grounds to serve campers in every loop.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw here, with the Holly Bay Marina located nearby for boat rentals and supplies. The park serves as a gateway to the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail, offering miles of hiking and biking opportunities through scenic landscapes. Fishing enthusiasts often find success targeting bass and walleye in the deep lake waters, while families can enjoy the designated swimming beach area during the warmer months.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is an ideal fit for nature enthusiasts and boaters who prefer a peaceful, forest-centered environment. It is particularly suited for RVers who enjoy dry camping or need only electric power, as full hookups are not the standard here. If your travel style involves quiet mornings by the lake and active days spent hiking or fishing, Holly Bay offers the perfect backdrop for a restorative Kentucky getaway away from the bustle of city life.

Very friendly staff each time they drove by in there golf carts they would stop and ask if we needed anything Addy was very helpful and knowledgeable of the campground Sites are surrounded by trees and are well taken care of. Sites are far enough apart to give you privacy. Would definitely recommend

I understand they had to cut employees but the campsite to our left was the host and the campsite to our right was partying loudly late at night, well past quiet hours. Loose dogs were running around. People driving well over 25 mph in the dark. Rules are not being enforced like it used to and I have been coming here for 25 years. Still a beautiful place to camp and go boating.

Staff is amazing and very helpful. I believe it was a couple that was working the gate. Great people! Campground sites are well maintained. Spacious. I was at a primitive site on section B. There's a little walk to these sites but absolutely beautiful down there. All sites have fire rings and picnic tables and tons of room to spread out. All around great spot.

This was our second time in Holly Bay Campground. This time was as good as the first time. The bathrooms are very clean as well as the campsite. The campsites are very spacious and there is plenty of space between them.

Had a wonderful and relaxing time here. At times we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Sites were clean and spacious and the trails around the lake were nice. The hike down to the lake was steep but loved being able to leave kayaks and such on the water for the duration of the stay. Our campground host Gino met us at arrival and shared some local tips. Thank the lord he told us how amazing the cliffs were back in Craig’s Creek otherwise we would not have found or made the journey all the way back there. Thanks so much Gino!
