Davidsonville
Overview
Davidsonville Historic State Park preserves the site of one of Arkansas's earliest pioneer settlements. Established in 1815, this location was once home to the territory's first post office and courthouse before the town eventually faded into history. Today, it serves as a peaceful riverside retreat where travelers can explore the remnants of a frontier community while enjoying modern camping comforts in a scenic, wooded environment that feels worlds away from the hustle of modern life.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the northeast corner of Arkansas near Pocahontas, the park sits near the scenic confluence of the Black River and Eleven Point River. The landscape is defined by lush bottomland forests and the quiet, steady flow of the water. Its position offers a serene escape, placing visitors deep within the natural beauty of the Upper Delta region, where the transition between the Ozark foothills and the river plains creates a rich habitat for local wildlife.
Amenities & Park Features
The park provides well-maintained campsites, including Class A sites with full hookups (water, electric, and sewer) for modern RVs. Guests have access to a clean bathhouse, a playground, and a modern visitor center that showcases fascinating archaeological artifacts discovered on-site. For those looking to get on the water, the paved boat ramp offers easy access for fishing or floating, while several shaded picnic areas provide space for relaxing under the towering hardwood canopy.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
History comes alive on the park's walking trails, which feature interpretive ghost structures that outline the original town's layout. Fishing is a major draw here, with the Black River being a prime spot for catching bass, crappie, and catfish. Just a short drive away, the city of Pocahontas offers additional historical sites and local dining, making it easy to balance wilderness exploration with the conveniences of a charming Arkansas town.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for history enthusiasts who appreciate learning about the American frontier while camping in a preserved setting. It also highly appeals to anglers and paddlers looking for a quiet, reliable basecamp near productive river waters. Because of its smaller scale and educational focus, it is perfect for families or retirees seeking a calm, reflective atmosphere rather than a high-traffic resort experience.

What a beautiful, serene, clean state park. We found this small campground after having to leave another one abruptly. There’s a small lake, nice playground with pavilion, and only 17 camp sites with half having full hookups. Our big 5th wheel was a tight squeeze getting into this site but is plenty long and fairly level. Would definitely come back.

Lovely place but very small. The history of the park is its best feature. I enjoyed being at the site of all of the firsts in Arkansas. Very friendly and helpful park ranger at the front desk.

Such a cool and important site for Arkansas history!! We walked around the old town plot and explored the ghost structures. There is plenty of fun interpretation here to imagine what it may have looked like in its heyday. There are also several trails to walk around and take your time exploring history.

camped one night on our way to Arizona! We were the only campers in park, but there was plenty of people hiking and walking pets…This park has plenty of trails to hike, detailed history of Davidsonville in its prime…. The visitor center is open in afternoon with a small museum to learn about Davidsonville in its prime.. there are lots of picnic table and grills. Handicap parking, and restrooms… 2 playgrounds for kids., full camper hookups. The perfect little park

Nice park. A lot of people fishing. Great for small ones to fish. Trappers Lake Trail was very nice, easy walk. Interesting history of Davidsonville, make sure to visit the Historic Town site.
