Death Valley/Furnace Creek

Overview

Staying at Furnace Creek offers the rare chance to camp at 190 feet below sea level within the vast wilderness of Death Valley National Park. This legendary desert oasis serves as the primary activity hub for the park, providing a lush contrast to the surrounding salt flats and rugged mountain peaks. It is a place of extremes, where the sun-drenched landscape meets the cool shade of ancient date palms, creating an unforgettable atmosphere for any RVer looking to experience the Mojave Desert.

Location & Surroundings

Located in the heart of Death Valley, California, this area is framed by the dramatic Amargosa Range and the towering Panamint Mountains. The geography here is unlike anywhere else on earth, featuring sweeping sand dunes, colorful mineral deposits, and expansive salt pans that shimmer under the desert sun. The park is conveniently situated near the main visitor center, making it the most accessible base for those wanting to explore the core of this vast, protected landscape.

Amenities & Park Features

The camping facilities cater to a variety of travel styles, offering both rustic dry camping and full hookup sites for those who prefer modern comforts. A standout feature for many visitors is the access to the spring-fed swimming pool at the nearby ranch, which maintains a refreshing temperature throughout the year. Additionally, the park provides large pull-through sites that can accommodate big rigs, along with essential services like dump stations, potable water, and communal fire pits for evening gatherings under some of the darkest night skies in the country.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

You are perfectly positioned to witness the sunrise at Zabriskie Point, which is just a short drive from the camp. Adventurers can explore the crystalline expanses of Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America, or drive the winding, multi-colored path through Artist’s Drive. For a touch of history, the Harmony Borax Works offers a glimpse into the valley’s industrial past, while several hiking trails lead directly from the valley floor into the surrounding golden canyons.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for adventurous families and national park collectors who want to stay in the center of the action. It is particularly well-suited for winter explorers looking to escape the cold in favor of mild desert temperatures and clear skies. If you value a mix of rugged exploration and convenient access to essential supplies and amenities, this is the premier choice for your Death Valley itinerary.

June1, 2026 We stayed in the one bedroom cottages and they were very clean. It has a washer and dryer which was a sweat surprise! Microwave and fridge were also available. The best part was the service. They hand delivered anything we needed like extra towels, pillow, coffee and such. When we showed up, the attendant upgraded us from a room to a cottage! It was perfect! Great service and the best place to be when it’s over 100 degrees outside! WiFi is available as well. The gas station is right next door as well at the visitors center. They have a pool but we didn’t use it. We bought the bed and breakfast package and the breakfast had so many options! Delicious.

One of the few places to stay right within Death Valley.. it’s an old property but maintained very well .. size of this property is good , we stayed in cottage which was a comfortable stay.. they have multiple restaurant and open area to relax .. we stayed for two nights and place for clean and green. They have all the required common amenities making it more comfortable .. once you are inside after your tired excursion you have all your option to chill. Just want to have a walk you have olace to do that . 2 restaurant plus one icecream parlor and coffee shop. We had all our meal at this place.

This place is amazing, literally a desert oasis! The staff have all been really helpful friendly through out my visit to furnace creek. I would like to give you shoutout to the folks down at main Buffett which has been dinner for the past 3 nights now. Would especially like to thank William and Amanda for making it what it has been. Even when it was really busy Amanda still was making her rounds making sure everyone was taken care of and had what they needed. Then William was so personable, made sure you knew your options and even shared a bunch of interesting facts about the ranch and surrounding area with some other guests and I last night I thought were pretty cool!

This is a great location for exploring Death Valley during an extended stay. The casitas are mini-duplex units with a shared front porch. At the end of February it was very pleasant to sit on the porch with morning coffee. Cafeteria buffet is edible and has a good variety of choices but you might prefer the Last Kind Words Saloon food for dinner. Reservations are a must because of space. Gift store also has a useful selection of convenience store breakfast and snack items. Gas station and Furnace Creek visitors center are right next door. I will definitely stay here again both because of its central location in Death Valley and the comfortable casitas.

Delightful property, truly an oasis. Lots of spots to sit and relax. Yummy morning buffet to set your tummy for the day. Easy to travel from site to site in a relaxing manner. Some easy hikes for older folks. Comfy bed to dream of your travels. We’d love to return again!
